That is the late war "composite" bed for the GMC CCKW and Studebaker US-6. Won't fit your Chevy, but there are lots of people looking for that bed, me included.
The dead giveaway that the dump bed is not factory original is the rear pivot pillow bearings welded on the frame. That is a no-no. The winch with the extended shaft to the right tells me your truck used to be a V17A-MTQ auger/pole setter truck. If the winch is a Highway then almost for sure.
You have to enter the base from the commercial vehicle gate. Make sure you Google maps the area and bring printouts, because the base is very confusing. Also be sure to have the GL phone number with you in case base security asks about your appointment. The GL reps there are Linda and Maxine...
Thanks for posting the additional pics. The frame picture tells the story, heavy fishplating to support the crane will make a restoration of the Diamond T very difficult. Also the cab has been chopped up, as you saw the passenger's door is kind of pointless now. The big Hercules RXC looks...
Never ceases to amaze me what turns up on Steel Soldiers. The wheel you have pictured is the combat wheel from a 1951 M41 5 ton cargo truck, super rare, I have one and never thought I would see more. The M41 had wheel wells in the cargo bed like the M34 deuce. The truck pictured is a WWII...
League City is deuce-rich environment! Sloryd has two, I have 3, my neighbor (non SS member) has one, and the city has 3! There are numerous other type MV collectors here as well. It would be great for ya to join in the fun. Whatever we can do to help you out, let us know! Lots of us will...
Excellent detective work on this Bighurt. I was stumped as to application, my 1970's 20 ton P&H M320T has the same drivetrain but the transfer case does not have that emergency brake drum.
If you need trailer tires, or 395 MVT's for that matter, look up noflats.com, they are the scrap tire contract holder, the Houston store had rows of the 15" LPT trailer tires today. I got a pair of MVT's and HEMTT rims for the front of my M916 from them today. All is cheap.
I think I...
Yes, as long as they are in good standing with GL they can pay the $60 and get a SF-97 any time (not sure how many months/years) after the auction. They would then have to apply for title ($$) and then sign over to you, unless they are a dealer, then they can reassign the SF-97. Likelihood of...
