Thanks SausageGuy ! That definitely looks like the factory stuff for sure. I talked to the guy I got my salvage frame & winch from. He is pretty sure that he has the switches in a box. Hopefully I will see them in a few days.
I downloaded the catalog and will give it a thorough...
I found mine at a local wrecker shop that was closing down. He had 6 and I grabbed them all. They had bounced around in various tool pockets for years - so they looked a little "shop worn". I disassembled them, cleaned them up with MEK because I had a couple of gallons, wire brushed them...
I can't claim expert status on winches and snatchblocks, but I believe you could use your 1/2" cable and the 5/8" snatchblock with no ill effects. Somewhere I think I read up a size is no problem. Can't swear to that but logic says bigger and stronger - theoretically a larger diameter pulley...
Very Nice! The chains in a pocket of the truck somewhere after you attach one to the winch cable will be incredibly useful if you ever find yourself in a tight spot. The real goal for the chain is to keep you from "kinking" your winch cable. You always want a nice straight pull if you can -...
Welcome from southern North Carolina!
There is a ton of good information here. Theory of operation, how, why, what for... With pictures posted to show what you are working on, help is pretty easy to get here as well!
Now that you have the MEP, you need a large green truck to drag it around...
I wasn't smart enough to see that... I used the sheet about a month ago to get the right filters. Had planned to say thank you and it slipped my mind. I guaged oil capacity by what was in my drain pans - and checked the stick. Started it, checked the stick again. Might have been easier had...
Welcome from North Carolina!
Fixing that truck up in honor or your dad is a cool plan. It's yours to do with as you see fit, but a hard top is a nice feature to have... Enjoy the new hobby and welcome to the site!

And I keep drooling over that PRIME workspace. Started out looking like a pole barn. It appears now that least three sides are closed in now. Sanctuary from the cold and rain is pretty sweet.
That steering box is a monster for sure!
Agreed, but a 1084 spends about the same amount of time loading a few pallets into a truck as it would take to recover a few hundred feet of winch cable. I wasn't as specific I might should have been when I mentioned "crane". It isn't like it runs for hours generating heat...
I haven't made...
Give this thread a quick look... The guy that started it, simp5782 is definitely "in the know" when it comes to air systems.

My only real concern is the size of the factory storage tank for hydraulic fluid. It is plenty large enough for a winch with room leftover to feed a lift gate. But, It is pretty small. I guess small is a relative term too when you want to hang more fuel tanks. Under continuous use like on a...
Yes Sir. Sad to report that there are no wires other than for the two switches that were already installed... I feel sure there was an Engineering Change (EC to save cost) that caused it to be that way. :-(
Last night I saw a YouTube video where a hydraulic pump was mounted on the driver's...
THANK YOU! Just knowing that it can be done is a good feeling. I will watch the video and see what I can learn. I found The Adventures Of Abel recommended by somebody on these forums. In that series, #108 (on FaceBook) shows the parts listing on rebuilding the cab and tire jack. I noticed...
And on top of that, if you have a sleepy-head who won't get out of bed you have the opportunity to stand them up and slide them out the back door! This might be really fun

Mine is a M1088a1 with a Cat 3126. I may be barking up the wrong tree, but getting hydraulics on the truck gives me all kinds of other possibilities too. It seems incredibly stupid that the winch and transmission can't both be in gear at the same time. So the tires turning could help the...
I know this post is from 2015 Derrickl112 but I am in the process of installing a self-recovery winch from a donor parts truck. Any chance you might happen to have any more info you could share or possibly those three winch & pto control switches in your pictures? Or the wiring specifics that...
