So, with a little digging I found what the "factory" switches for the PTO and Self-Recovery Winch are supposed to look like (picture below). Apparently member Derrickl112 installed one on his truck back in 2015.

Neat! Thanks for the info Tinstar! It definitely would be tight and close without that 10" extension. Seems that trailers don't get MWO tags like trucks? Or at least if they do, I haven't found any on mine yet. Or, maybe the extension is so obvious there was no need to tag it?
I have...
Not good - but at least you found the problem... I have seen several threads on here where glow plugs got "toasted" in pretty short order. It didn't really apply to me so I didn't dig in for more info. Might be worth a search and read so an early failure doesn't happen to you.
Agreed! I would rather overbuild electrical than "let out the smoke" on something that isn't used often - but really needs to work when the situation arrises!
The good part on my "parts deal" was that the solenoids for the "electric on" PTO and the winch were left in place. I got the entire...
I have one of those that I got with the intention of hauling local VFW Post guys in parades. Nice sides so nobody falls out. I got some really low deck chairs for them to sit on....
But Wow! What a neat way to give that trailer another purpose in life. Not sure I would want to highway haul it...
Thanks Chris!
I was hoping for "The" switches, but I am resigned to the fact that they would most likely be $50 or more each. It appears to me that the link you sent will get the job done and I can fill all those empty slots for the same money as one would cost otherwise ;-)
I think I...
Welcome from North Carolina! You should be able to find the TM's for your potential purchase here. The -10's are operators guides, parts TMs as well as maintenance TMs. They will answer a lot of questions - and there are lots of folks here with practical experience. Heck, there is even a...
I have the electric PTO. I have the hydraulic winch and tank. Going to mount them on my M1088.
I presume that the switches mount in the spot below the "gonna fall over sideways" guage. I also ASSuME that the winch switch will be spring loaded (to the center) and up or down will be in or out...
Owen,
You hit the nail on the head! It's sad but true. We are definitely moving in the direction of socialism because nobody wants to work any more. They would rather stick their hand out - and wait for the government to solve their problems.

Wow Owen! I didn't even think about those grease cups. There are 4 of them on the smallest press. They get a quarter turn daily and refilled monthly. Paper is a NASTY thing. It makes a lot of dust but oddly enough I have never had a grease cup stop pushing grease.
It has been about 20...
Hi Bruce! Welcome from Charlotte, North Carolina!! You have definitely found a band of brothers that love their trucks. I can't say for sure but a lot of these trucks get arbitrary replacements of speedometers or an entire dash cluster. Your actual mileage may vary. (I always wanted to say...
Hey, but you found one... THAT is a heck of an accomplishment especially for a 1952 truck. I am torn on the price. Seems high, but what do I really know about parts for a '52 Dodge truck? Not much and when you consider that he had it and the shipping will end up being a third of the cost...
Welcome from North Carolina!
I understand that 20 year want... I worked on somebody else's trucks back in the 80's and always wanted a Deuce or a 5-Ton for myself. I finally got some toys and it feels pretty darn good! Welcome to the brotherhood of military truck enthusiast!

RayGunSlayer , I don't own a HMMWV, but both of my diesel vehicles in North Carolina "rattle and clatter" for several minutes now that the weather has turned colder. I also noticed today that the "Intake Preheater" lamp was on in the M1088 at startup.
Member JD4044M installed a block heater...
Indeed. I figure he may have gotten $10 each at the scrap yard because they were the big square batteries. $40 just isn't worth getting shot in my opinion. We didn't have this sort of trouble until we got a light rail stop. You can look at the CMPD (Police) crime maps and see what looks like...
Good info! Thanks for confirming that a little pressure (very little) is a good plan. It is getting cold here tonight but that is part of the wonder of living in North Carolina. Wait a few days and it will be t-shirt weather again ;-) My shop is the great outdoors and when it is cold and wet...
That made it much more difficult to figure out what cable went where. I finally had to do what I should have done - and followed each wire to the other end. That and some good advise helped me get the connections right "without letting the smoke out" of my truck.
Thievery happened in broad...
Thanks! Could be loss of prime because it did sit for a while... I need to look at the fuel line situation too I guess. Almost wonder if a rag to restrict the fuel tank fill hole a bit and an air nozzle would make them easier to spot if I have a weak spot in a rubber line...
