M270 is the 40' gooseneck semitrailer used behind the 5 ton tractor wrecker. Capy is 12 tons. You would need a dolly converter to use with a deuce. These come up on GSA a lot, price $2500. Deck is way up there at 48. Width is 96.
Good Luck, be prepared for hot temps, I am not acclimated to temps in the 90's yet and I just about burned up in the sun working on "pinky" just now. I will be zipping out to Ft Polk Tues also for a pickup.
Funny how the reality of bidding on this stuff comes to life when you have to...
The Gillipsie (Rapco) CARC substitute in 383 green looks marginal. The shade and gloss does not match and it does not have the sandpaper texture of the real stuff.
My question is: For those of us wishing to paint the occasional truck, which of the 3 types of Sherwin Williams CARC will...
Bryan, just keep watching the GL auctions at Camp Beauregard up in Pineville. A bunch of us have gotten some really nice deuces from the LANG. They come up every couple of months and sell well below your budget. And, you are close enough to preview. The guys up there are a great bunch, and...
Gas powered trucks with the OA331 engine had the 3052 trans. The winch PTO lever will stick up through the transmission tunnel not far from the gas pedal, there should be a knockout. Nice truck!!!
All you need is the usual winch set up for the deuce. The PTO bolts to the 3053 transmission. It's a lot of work to bolt the frame extensions and winch on, but can be done. There is a place for the trans PTO lever in the cab, it will not interfere with the transfer PTO lever and linkage, as...
The metal staves are the same on 715's, M211's, M35's, 5 tons, etc. There are 4 unique ones for each bed corner and the middle ones are the same. The wood is red oak originally.
Use your empty oil drain pan up on top of the engine next to the oil filter canister to accept the old filter. Use a old soup can to catch the oil from the filter housing drain plug. Then use lots of paper towels to clean the bottom of the canister, it will be full of sludge.
Hey Gary, cb is inside the 3 lever switch, hyd brake light switch is inside the frame rail, and don't forget there is a pneumatic switch too that activates the lights if you apply the trailer brake lever on the steering column, that could help you narrow down the problem.
Acording to the Crismon book, the picture in the very first post in this thread is not a XM977. Fred writes "TACOM built this 5 ton purely for evaluation purposes . . the cab is Kenworth . . . the chassis is from a M656 5 tonner . . . engine 6V53 . . . no XM number was assigned". He goes on...
What does the data plate say this truck was? Only a few applications for the transfer PTO. I would say this PTO is made just for this transfer case and nothing else will fit, am I correct everyone?
Yup, Chevy. Should have the "stovebolt" 235 engine and a 4 speed trans. All the stuff on the back of the frame, except for the winch, is scrap. The winch there is worth what maybe $500 if you paint it and sell it to the truck/ heavy equipment marketplace. Look really close at the cab, rust...
