You will have a M48A2 when you are done. I converted a M764 pole setter truck like this and it turned out awesome. Drop in a LDS engine and you are good for 50,000 GVW.
"Do you KNOW they are on Mabry, or just guessing? Our club meets at the museum on Mabry and our next meeting is this coming Wednesday, I might be able to check the truck out, IF they will let me in the yard. "
Not sure, just a hunch, the trees in the background plus the lack of pavement...
Those pictures look like they were taken at Camp Mabry in Austin, TX. The trucks at Sam are all TXNG 49th Div turn in's. You can tell by the stupid yellow bumper stickers,"Call 1800- if you see this truck being driven eratically". Better plan on the batteries being stone dead. The San...
The only reason I kept mine on my M275A2 is the cool switch on the dashboard that reads "TURN OFF IN CASE OF ATOMIC ATTACK". Not sure if the new ones you "spotted" still have the "cold war" warning.
Last leg deuces? No such thing - they are always ready to come back to life with a little TLC - most have been soldiering since the Vietnam war!
Steel Soldiers members need to make sure they are not part of the national problem . . . In my household NOTHING is purchased that is not MADE IN...
The truck pictured is a GMC CCKW-352. Shortwheelbase, closed cab, with winch and rare ring mount. If you want one of these to restore, talk to Army Cars USA, they are importing the Norway creampuffs. They have nice ones for $6K and up depending on running condition. These are so nice you can...
Anybody want one of these monsters, for real, PM me, there is a secret stash of these here in Texas that I know about. They are basket cases w/o packs, tracks, misc . . .
Even without lockers in the differentials the 880s have awesome traction as long as all 4 wheels are on the ground. If one wheels starts to slip, you can apply brake and the opposite wheel will bite. My 880 once pulled a Mack roll-off out of a deep hole. The driver (and I) could hardly...
The frame on the mite is really light stuff, about like the WWII jeep. Not set up at all for Dana 44's and the like. Think of the mite as a Kawasaki Mule that can go 55 mph.
Class 5411, rigid wall shelters, under "construction materials". Lots of times they do not show up there, especially if the NSN show "controlled item" and GL just wants to make them go away . . .
Looks like the Texas National Guard is starting to part with their 2 1/2 tons, anyone in the Austin area, have you been to Camp Mabry to see how many will be coming our way?
The manual is TM9 2520-246-34 or TM9 8623. The nut on the shaft holds the bearings tight on the shaft. If it is missing, the shaft will do like you said. If this transfer looks to be messed up, you are better off buying a known good one from a SS member parting out a truck. By the time you...
Don't worry, they have the EUC's in high gear at Battle Creek. Did you see all the deuce and a halfs coming up at Ft Sam? They are right out of the TXNG. Can you preview them and let the world know? They look tasty.
Parramore's in Mt Pleasant in the middle of the panhandle. Call first, not too much really current stuff there. Lot's of WWII derelict heavies waiting for rescue!
Not shabby! Bring 2 batteries and your insurance card and drive her home. Nothing looks missing in the pics . . . One coat of paint and she will look like a new truck.
