    Pictures would have been a better explanation. Imagine you have a 6 inch bolt, but the elevated clamping force only comes in to affect the last 2 inches. Grind maybe 3 inches a little bit and your Not fighting the full running torque of the nut.

    No, you would still have at least a 1/2 inch of threads above the nut, you just wouldn’t be fighting the entire length of the threaded stud. threads would be at least 3 quarters away around the entire length of the stud with a 100% about a half inch above the nut.
