Search "1000D water repellent cordura" on the auction site and you'll have a ton of options.

    Push button light switch

As mentioned elsewhere - it's obvious that you're seeking a consensus on an opinion that matches your own. Stop dancing around it and just do it if you want to use it that bad. Well respected people here and elsewhere have warned you of the potential danger, others have as well and have...

Utah HMMWV recovery, Helmet Hard top install, and build.

While I'll be the first one to acknowledge that the military specified tow-ratings are as low as they are so that they can account for off-highway or cross-country towing, I like to apply the 98% rule to anything over that. 98% of the time, you'll probably be just fine - it's the remaining 2%...

    M998 newbie looking for advice

While I don't disagree that he should look long and hard about really wanting a slantback, it's not for the reasons you suggest. Let's face it, when most of the uninformed public thinks of a HMMWV, they tend to think of one with a slanted rear end and a machine gun on top, so for many it's just...

4th of July HMMWV Plans Anyone?

I had mine in our local 4th of July parade with 2 other HMMWV's plus a HMMWV from the local Reserve center - our trucks were way nicer but no doubt they aren't run nearly as hard anymore. The below pic is from our local newspaper - that's my GMV up front. We vastly underestimated the candy...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Given that your options are not carrying a spare at all, or storing it somewhere in the vehicle (on top is pretty much a no-go with softtops), I think the bumper mount is the way to go. It's secured to the vehicle and with the Rhino, lifting/lowering the 160# tire is done with the carrier itself...

Brand new X doors. Who's interested???

What they're listed for and what they sell for are entirely different. The market price on x-doors peaked about 8-12 months ago where yes, $2000+ dollars wasn't uncommon, but it's somewhat relaxed again. The days of $800 a set are long gone - but definitely not $2500 a set. Anyone who pays that...

Brand new X doors. Who's interested???

Where the heck are you finding crappy, falling apart x-doors for $2500? Most anymore that actuall sell are sub $2k and aren't all that bad. Sure there are ones that have seen better days, but they sure as heck aren't $2500. As for your doors. I've yet to see a new-man door that is as stiff and...

After market seats or alternate seats for HMMWV / m998 ?

The seats don't come padded. A 3" thick 16"x16" gel wheelchair cushion fits very nicely though and is pretty comfy. I'll have to make the back cushions for them and hope that I can get to it this weekend.

After market seats or alternate seats for HMMWV / m998 ?

Here you guys are going for all these cushy seats and I've taken a step backwards by going with the armored seats

    New paint thread (touchup) HMMWV

What MILSPRAY says could be true, or it could be clever marketing claims, but notice that nowhere in the marketing claims did it say anything about color match or anything like that. The Military has a genuine need for signature reducing products, etc. but note that colors have different or...

    New paint thread (touchup) HMMWV

The problem I've seen for touch-ups of the original paint is that the CARC is faded to such varying degrees, finding something that matches 100% all of the time isn't an easy task. The pic below is of an armored GMV door that I recently took apart. If you look through the dirt, you can see what...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

I've batted around the idea in the past of painting the wheels, just never do manage myself to get around to it. While I don't think it would necessarily be "correct", it would definitely look good.

    5 passenger legal?

Ari, while I agree that there are things that certainly could be considered more "dangerous" that are done everyday, common sense doesn't necessarily clarify the correlation between two laws such as why you're required to wear a seatbelt as an occupant of a vehicle, but it's ok that there are no...

    5 passenger legal?

I agree 100% - HMMWV's can and do roll over, I would not want to be standing in that turret in the event the vehicle rolled.

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

The rear shelf and toolbox are aluminum, so don't weigh that much - I installed them myself without anything special to prop anything up. The shelf was fab'd, but not by me. They were done up by contractors at Letterkenny Arsenal. The tool box is a pretty standard box for the military. The...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

I finished painting the doors (Behr Ultra-Premium) on the GMV this weekend, then used my wife's vinyl printer/cutter to put all the applicable markings on the truck. I purposely used a different font (a stencil cut) for the unit markings, as if they were added after delivery. I marked the truck...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I painted my doors to match the rest of the truck this weekend and used my wife's vinyl cutter to cut out all new sticker markings for the truck. I marked it up as a A/1/5SFG truck - I have a close friend who was on ODA 511 during the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. They used GMV's...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I added a couple of cable steps to the rear of the GMV so that it's a little easier to climb in the back.
