Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

I removed my air filter and took a test drive, it made no difference at all. Same poor performance.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

The new pistons lower the compression by about 2 points, and with only 2 compression rings, they don't seal. Now it starts hard, smokes like a train, power is way down. I used the John Deere breaking oil also.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Well I had my heads surfaced and valve job done, I used the new LDS liners, new LDS pistons with rings. I'm extremely disappointed in the performance of this engine, I also have the LDS rockers, injector pump and injectors. The new pistons and rings suck.

    Rear main seal

My rear main seal housing has the 3 drain holes in it. It wasn't leaking, but since I was in there, I decided to replace it. It was starting to get a little stiff.

    Rear main seal

I can't open the file, it says it's damaged. So what seal is this reference to, the rear main engine seal, or a mod for the transmission input bearing?

    Rear main seal

My clutch was slipping, and I thought my rear main seal was leaking and causing the problem. So I pulled the transmission and discovered it was gear oil, that was leaking and getting on my clutch. The transmission was replaced a couple years ago, with a rebuilt unit, along with clutch, pressure...

    Rear main seal

I ran a couple long bolts in the bellhousing plate, then tightened them a little, this put enough pressure on the flywheel, to keep the engine from turning. I was able to use a big breaker bar.

LDS intake rockers installed on intake and exhaust.

Has anybody installed the LDS intake rocker arms on both the intake and exhaust? I have an extra set of new LDS rockers and was toying with the idea of installing them on my exhaust. I have a new set on my intake. I'm thinking it may lower the EGT and make more power.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

So you put the original pistons back in, and now it runs good? Well that defiantly rules out the cylinder heads. Guess you got a bad set of pistons, rings and sleeves. Guess I was lucky to get a good set. Hope yours keeps on running strong.

    Water/Methanol injection

I've already read all that info. Nobody has came up with a percentage of methanol that is safe. So I will do my own testing and see what percentage of methanol can be ran without detonation. People need to know.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

I measured the chamber volume in the pistons. Huge difference between the original and the LDS. The LDS chamber is much larger. If your block is good, I'm willing to bet money that you have a bad head, or heads. Are you going to have a rebuild shop check them at some point. The curiosity is...

    Water/Methanol injection

I did put a 50% methanol mix in a spray bottle, I sprayed in directly into the turbo, didn't notice anything bad. The engine wasn't under a load tho. I'll keep add methanol till it starts effecting it in a bad way. I'm curious as to what percentage I can get away with. It would be nice to be...

    Water/Methanol injection

Red, have you been running water/methanol injection on the 20:1 LDS engine?

    Water/Methanol injection

I installed a water/methanol injection system on my bobbed M35A2, it works really good. I bought the kit from Alky Control. It's triggered by boost pressure, I have it come on at about 5 psi boost. So far I have only ran a 1% methanol mixture, I've heard the multifuel engines don't like the...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

I think you have a cracked head or cracked block. Was your engine a TD block?

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

I have only used 1 gallon of 30% methanol and 2, 12oz bottles of 100% methanol. This mixture is only about 1% methanol. My water tank is 26 gallons.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

It's running great, it seems to get better with more miles. I tray and push it hard when I drive it.

Weighed my bobbed Deuce this morning.......

I weighed mine a few years ago, if I remember correctly it was like 10,980, that was with me in it and a 100 lb toolbox.
