After checking the Battery Cables and connection, if you still have nothing, check for voltage at the starter. If nothing, work back checking voltage at the Starter relay under the dash and go from there. I had a similuar situation with my oh9, turned out to be a loose connection at the starter...

Check your Cables and Connectors, sounds like whats happening is you have a loose connection and after the first attempt or two, that bad spot makes a better connection and whalla...it starts...2cents

I think what you see is the Positive strap going into the starter from the solenoid. From what ive seen, most starter/solenoid assemblies are internally grounded. No external grounds....

Maybe....I've seen this where the solenoid engages but nothing else happens, the Starter doesn't turn, etc. This can be caused by Carbon build up or a burnt spot on the Solenoid disc which closes to complete the circuit. Try tapping on the Solenoid with a lite weight or plastic hammer a few...
