I'm looking for a cheap suburban to swap all the parts of my 1028 into. Did you use a 3/4 ton or 1/2 ton suburban frame? Did you have to change spring perches on the 14 bolt?
2 years ago or so I pulled the radiator and twisted one of the lines. Parts guy at my local chevy dealer was able to locate me one. I guess he had access to a lot of places inventory, came in from Canada if I remember correctly.
I built the NV4500 behind my 6.5TD 1995 K2500.
1993 has the lower first gear, 6.34. '94 on is 5.61. Doesn't matter which you get, just depends on what you want. I have heard, but can't verify, that in '96 the bell housing changed and if you ever plan on doing a Cummins swap you want '96 on...
'87 and newer are the more desirable ones. I believe '92 was the last year they were made before going electronic. Check out the U-Pull-It type yards. You can usually find a good rebuildable core pretty cheap.
If you do go the 700r4 route, use a pressure gauge to set the TV cable. Improper...
+1 on manual control of lockup. You can get auto lockup with a 4th gear pressure switch. Toggle switch on the dash to select between auto 4th gear lock and manual lock for other gears if needed.
The way the tech explained it to me was, it's like a worn out engine that can be bored out to take oversized piston/rings, but my pump is too worn to be able to rebore it. The $900 is all inclusive and I would basically have a new pump that would be able to be rebuilt down the road because it's...
That was the price for a rebuild? My concern with sending my pump off is that I'd get a similar priced quote. The price for a rebuild is going to vary depending on what's needed. I need a new housing apparently. Only way to get a second opinion is to send it somewhere. If it's a similar quote...
I just got a quote from my local stanadyne service center of $900 and change to rebuild an IP. Seems like I see prices online for refurbished ones in $500-600 range.
Those who have gone either route, what kind of prices have you paid.?
I feel better dealing with a local authorized shop incase...
700r4 is not electronic controlled. Somewhere around '93 they changed the name to 4L60e, "e" for electronic controlled. 700r4 is an easy swap and there were tons of them behind 6.2's from the factory, it will handle a 6.2. If you go the electronic route a get a stand alone controller, then get a...
Are you planning on keeping the computer controlled ds4 pump or converting to the mechanical db2? '93 still had the db2 and a stand alone controller for the 4L80.
Rockauto.com sells them. Look in the 3/4 or 1 tons, the 1/2's would've had an nv3500, I have no idea if that line would fit. I think the slave went from external to internal around '96.
I had written a reply yesterday, but for some reason it's not here. I'll give you the condensed version. Yes you can get them but I've searching and can't find where. I came come across a thread on a different forum once with a pretty good write up about taking it apart and where to get seals. I...
When my hydro boost was leaking, it was losing copious amounts from between the brake reservoir and the hydro boost, never a drop inside the cab. The seals inside the booster where shot. I would suggest to anyone to just replace the seals and not the unit. Seals are dirt cheap.
