Which side of Hutchinson 3-piece runflat faces out?

Back when I got mine off eBay, they could barely give them away. I think I paid like $40/ea, and shipping was free or cheap. I haven't seen them in a while, though.

    LMTV CTIS Question

Are there more than one style of the CTIS wheel valve housings? I know there are a few versions of the hoses, but does the valve body change too? Is there only one set of internal replacement parts (e.g. diaphram, seat, spring, etc.)?

    3D Printed Seal Driver

And you're giving us a glimpse of "typical mechanic underthinking". The irony is that because you don't want to think about it very hard, you're not even imagining that there is any good reason engineers would make these seal drivers, and you assume it must just be that they were bored and made...

    3D Printed Seal Driver

The seal drivers are nice, and help the job go smoother, with less chance of messing up the seals. Most of the strong opinions against things being over-engineered come from not understanding why it was done. The 3D printed drivers work pretty well. They take too long to print to be worth...

    Lost my screws….

4.8 x 19mm sounds like an odd size. Is that a conversion for an imperial size? That works out to 0.189" x 0.748". A #10 screw is 0.190" diameter, so it seems like it's probably #10 x 3/4"L.

    New LMTV owner

    1. The breaker box does not mount anywhere. You only put it on when using the crane, and then just roll it up and store it with the rest of the cables when not in use. 2. I use the ratcheting pivot handle, and switched it to the long handle. I feel it's pretty important, as it allows you to...

    M1079 Timing Cover replacement

I've pulled the front timing cover/case off. The big issue, that I recall, is that you can't remove it without pulling a big gear off of one of the cam shafts (or some other rotating shaft sticking out the front of the engine). The gear is like 6" in diameter, would not budge with a...

    Lmtv 1078 bed dimensions

I like the idea. I don't think there are any dimensionally accurate drawings of the bed available. I don't know what tolerance the bed is constructed to either, but it's probably not too tight (e.g. one bed to the next may vary 1/8" between the post holes?). Trying to mate to all four post...

    Driver Side Antenna Mount

I've been looking for a driver's side antenna mount for a while too, for the same reason. I haven't gotten to installing the light kit yet, so I haven't pushed it.

    3116 timing housing leak

More info about the air compressor bracket, with references to previous threads and stuff, in the document here in my signature. Lots of other distilled info too.

Get Your Popcorn Ready: Unicorn ALERT

You can buy them, straight from Rieker if you want. The part number is here in my spreadsheet in my signature. I have a thread around here where I made a 3D printed mount for mine, that puts it right in the middle of the instrument panel (straight for the driver to see, instead of in the...

    M1078 cracked block

Most likely your driveshafts are not balanced. Read the document here in my signature, for a ton of information about it, including links to old posts. I had the same thing happen to me, and had to replace the engine.

    Aluminum wheels

It's not that the system is inefficient, it's just inefficient for how you want to use it. If you were a military, ordering enough of these to support their 100,000 FMTVs, it works as designed. If these lug nuts aren't used on any (or many) other commercial vehicles, the commercial supply...

    Aluminum wheels

Don't take it personally. You're getting a very unique truck, but with it comes unique problems.

Top 5 fixes to your LTMV

The kneeling hydraulic cylinders could be repurposed/replaced with cylinders to do something else useful, such as extend an awning, deploy stairs, or lift a fuel can rack.

Top 5 fixes to your LTMV

Preventative maintenance on it, or replacing it, would be of similar difficulty, and allow you to keep it.

    Engine mount replacement

I've replaced the engine before. The issues I had were finding an engine lift strong enough for the weight, or tall enough for how high it needed to go. I rented one from a local heavy equipment rental place that barely did it, and we had to put it up on cinder blocks and 2x12's to get the...

A good readthrough here in the Common Problems-Fixes document in my signature.
