I now have another M923 for your consideration:
a. C52304180
b. NL0EMW
c. 2320010502084
d. GL Sparta WI
e. Left bumper: W88CR312EN Right bumper: 4400
I left out the dashes between the C and R and another between the 4's on the bumper numbers.
This truck was re-conditioned at MCLB Barstow, so I think the bumper numbers may be from a Marine unit. Is it normal for a truck to transfer between services, or was this one always a Marine Corps truck I wonder?

Thanks, and donation will be made with reference to "SteelSoldiers Project".

Where else can I find info. Im kinda at a loss here. I have the data plates and wirewheeled the frame numbers. I know the nubers on the frame are 0540 10001 and that is consitient with the last few numbers from the serial number on the data plate. it has stamped numbers first, then painted 0540 and then stamped 10001. Its is made by AM General, thats on the plate. The plate also has a contract number and a number that follows the NSN sytem. I would just really like to know what the year of my truck is and any info on it.

Thanks,
Corey
Sorry, I have no information on your truck. It may have been used by the USAF or USN or was just never added.

If we want to figure out what our inspecition date is or was for our truck for our rebuilt or overhauled trucks, where would we find the info to decode our serial number on our trucks
There maybe a wire tag remaining on the frame or cab body. Otherwise it's lost to history.

Thank you Jeff!
I have discovered thus far that Am General was the last manufacture to fill contracts, and since mine is 10001 then Im almost sure its a 1970 truck under my trucks contract that was let in 1970.
You were right, there is a C in the contract number, its just hard to read because my data plate has been sand blasted it looks like around the edges.

Here are pics of the data plate inside of the door and a comparisson of that paint color to my hand and to arevoe 977B SG OD 24084 (vietnam era 24087).
And also some overall pics of the truck. Keep in mind that the bed has been changed out before I bought the truck.

Thanks,
Corey

Pictures 8 and 14 have bright red spots. Thats Fire Truck color. I can't read the serial number so I can't guess on it's info. The Air Force did have M-44 chasis turned into fire trucks. Since the bed is a new addition, do you know what was on the back before? Data platesays it was a drop side; what was on the bed? Water tank maybe? many clues can be found in the underframe. look for odd holes, maybe some of the stuff from it's previous life is still attached. Get a copy of the TM's for the M35A2, should be the -10 and -20 TMs. They're you're best bet. You're gonna have to dig on this one but the answer is out there on your driveway, you justgot to figure out the correct question to ask it. Last thing that can possibly help, if you have the ability to remove the identification plate (held on by soft aluminum pop rivits) do that and look on the back. Since you don't have an M35A2 as it rolled out the factory the data plate may be suspect as the original. Slight chance (very slight) I've heard that when the fire/water/whatever modified M-44 chasis was converted back to M35A2 config, the original information on occasion was written on the back of the data plate, which was installed after mods were done. the truck has a winch, so the data plate is wrong. Winch is an add on after the fact. previous owner(s) did some serious work changing things out.

My best guess at this time with the evidence you've provided was at one time this was a water truck for a fire department. What branch is still open but Air Force is looking closer. They have a lot of ranges out in the middle of nowhere and a deuce was the best truck at the time to get out there and douse grass fires caused by ordinance. Bright red was the color to differentiate it from the targets. Wouldn't want to blow up your fire fighters.

Keep digging, something on the truck is going to point the way. Sanding down the bumpers and either the door or side of the hood is still the best way i know to tell who owned it. AF is on the door and Navy/Marine Corps is on the hood.

It did orginally have a drop side body on it. the datat plate says M35A2C WO/W.
IN the the fire department (after military service) the truck had the bed removed and a rear crane added with a rear PTO.

Thanks,
Corey
OK, thank you for those picks. I'd love to have that crane though..oh well. Still doesn't answer the question on where it came from. I'm coming up blank for now. I still think there is an answer. More than one truck was bought on that contract. Two of mine were also part of the contract. My last resort would be to contact the company and see if they could tell who they sold the truck to. It's an AMGen and they're still making trucks for the military. Long shot but at this point can't hurt. I was surfing the web and found their site. i'll try and find it again and post it.

It just could be that I don't have the information. My database has holes in it but most Army M35 s are in it. Nothing necessarily secretive about it or anything, it maybe just not in the information I have.

Roger that CARNAC. I've been the data base controller for some projects and the data is only as good as the people who contributed into it. I like tough projects and this one's got me challenged. Using the current slang, I don't want you to think I'm "dis'ing" your work, which is priceless. Not only do you help anyone for free, all you ask that they give to a fantastic cause on their own. Without you, this site would not be the great place to hang out that it is. One of the AF Chiefs that I was inflicted on over my time in the Air Force called me a Bulldog. I get my teeth into things and don't let go till I'm told to or there's nothing left to chew on. I take that as a complement, especially since I am a Marine.
Is this the time to say "Down Boy"?:-D

Just bought a 1970 Kaiser-Jeep M35A2 w/w from another member. I checked the data plate against the frame serial and it appears as though she was originally wo/w. I don't' know if a private owner or Uncle added the winch. I looked to see if there was already an info request posted since I'm at least the third owner since Uncle let it go and didn't see it either by serial or by member name.

a. 032530049
b. 04D39470
c. 2320000771616
d. 3rd private owner- purchased in NC- original purchase location unknown
e. It was 88 C R then under that 213 Q

Too late now, but sorry about the NSN dashes, I knew better and still overlooked it. Thanks for the info!
