I agree. This was my first year going, and to be honest...I wasn't very impressed. Lots of open spaces. Didn't like getting haggled to donate money to restorations either. I have my own restoration going on, and you don't see me out there panhandling at the show. Had I known what it was like, I probably wouldn't have bothered driving 150 miles each way(plus MD and DE with the tolls...$20 in those alone). I've been to tons of car shows and swap meets and I'd have to say I was pretty disappointed at the size of the show(small...), after being told that it was one of the larger shows in the U.S. I was expecting to see a lot more trucks. Other then vendors(and GL) it seemed like only about 5 people brought trucks to the "show". I even walked around the back side of the stadium to see if there was a section I missed
I had 20 spots, 10 pull thru, for the MD SS members and we had 7 trucks in our spots alone, so I am skeptical. there were also over 30 trucks in the display area that were judged. the largest turnout to date. So you must of missed that as well..There was too many open spots and if the show is to survive we must do something to get more vendors. As to bogus survey forms using the clubs logo, I am blown away. This was done without the permission of the leadership, false, and very misleading. I filled mine out, thinking it was real and was very pi**ed when I went to turn it in finding out that a disgruntal long term member had done this on his own, under false pretenses. I hope everyone comes to the next club meeting to air out their grievances, along with finding out if the event made money. I would join another MV club to help do an event at another location, since I would like one more event in this area. I would not sabatoge the Blue/Gray to do it and think that misleading people with false surveys is the not the way to do it.I agree. The portapottys definitely should have been pumped Friday morning...by the afternoon they were pretty well full and filthy. The hand washing station was pretty much out of water(I found this out AFTER I had soap all over my hands)..Had to use my bottle of water to rinse my hands off.
Food was good.
I don't forget you, Ollie! Since I typed the above, I remembered about 5 other Steel Soldiers I missed in my initial list. I have Old-Timers-Disease, it comes and goes... BTW, those were some great cigars! I'll have a few for you next rally at Gilbert.
I must have missed a whole section?...30 trucks? The area towards I95 cordoned off with caution tape and cones(that I think was the "display" area since they weren't selling anything) had maybe 10 trucks in it when I was there on Friday noon-afternoon. In fact, I can tell you exactly what trucks were in there... 2 Humvees- one comms/combat, one medic, one unimog, one pinzgauer, a couple dueces, and a M915 from NJ that looked like it was on a M939 chassis- desert tan with big black exhaust stack. Three deuces way off at the end that I didn't even bother walking over to because they were well away from the rest of the 7 trucks in that area. That is it.
