Thank you for the information. I have a 2006 duramax truck complete. I was planning on changing motor, trans and dif. I'm not sure what the gears are in the 06 but I'm just in the planning stages so things can change quickly. I restore cars for a living and am not scared but I also don't want to waste money or time. The M1151 is my wife's Christmas present

The diffs are completely and totally incompatible, you will not be able to use anything from the 2006 but for the engine, trans and transfer case.
Even with a body lift it is like stuffing 10lb of crap in a 5lb bag and this is a TOTALLY different animal than anything else you have ever worked on and it seems you have not done your homework.
I am not trying to discourage you but this is not an easy project, in fact it is not even a difficult project, it is much more than that.

After your 1st message and looking at both rearends last night I realized how crazy it would be to try and make it work. My exact words when I noticed how different it was were "S***. It's too f****** big!" You're right I haven't done enough research yet but I'm working on it. Before I start tackling any of that I need to source the correct gearbox for the steering. Honestly before this Christmas I'm just trying to get it painted tan like she wants it, and getting it to look a little bit more presentable. I'll take any help I can get with the mechanical side of it. To be honest I am not good at the mechanical side. I specialize in painting, body work and metal fabrication.

Hello all, we picked up a M1151A1 last week at Yermo. There was definitely less trucks than I've seen over the years, but there was still a ton of up armored trucks. I counted at least 50 and stopped. We purchased a nonrunner with the intention to put a duramax in it.

my suggestion is to make the truck run with an OEM engine and go from there…a Dmax conversion is not for feint of heart or light wallet….it’s really just depends on what your ultimate goals are for the truck.
as far as Diffs go…best diff solution is 2.73 from an A2 truck.
What SN is that Truck? I’m sure you probably have a “
pre-REV. That will tell me what Tcase your running.

You have a truck with a GEP engine that is turbo charged. That is good stuff. That is more than enough horsepower than she will need. I would concentrate on getting it running. Please feel free to PM me because I am taking a non-running truck and turning it into a running truck right now, as well as my friend Eric has taken a non-running truck and turned it into a 12 V running truck.

Technical manuals (TM’s) on this site are available for free and many of us are willing to help you. There are many on this forum who are much better at this stuff than I am, including Steve (retired warhorses) and 86HUMV (who is somebody who is well respected as far as selling parts. You should also start reading old post because a lot of the information is already there.

We all wish you luck and we all want to help you. Just take this slow and easy at first and then things will get better and better.

These are not simple trucks, but at the same time they are not that complicated either.

The government paid more for these trucks than a Rolls-Royce so enjoy your Rolls-Royce/Bentley as you slowly get used to it.

If this is what your wife wants, then you have a really cool wife. Congratulations on that too.

Gamble has the same truck. He took a couple of years, and now it looks kick a$$. He threw in a Plan B dashboard that looks AMAZING. Search out his posts. He even did up the interior to look terrific. Amazing rig!

After talking to my wife that is the plan. To get it running with current configuration and see how she likes it. Although I'm in the market for one now. the plate # on hers is 258030. I'm going for one above 300000. Thank you for your advice.

Thank you, I don't know if a GEP with a tubro will be fast enough for her. She currently has a truck Norris cam in her cadillac escalade. She say it sounds nice but slow .

These trucks are great until 60/65. Then they are like bricks in a hurricane. They are not geared or streamlined or designed for speed.

That's why we're getting two one with turret one for off roading.

1980’s technology in the chassis and drivetrain, your going to find out real quick how much a modern high HP and High torque power train will Eat up driveline components.
if you venture into the 300k SN range, your not gaining much over the 258k SN range except the brakes, geared fan drive and Tcase…the big difference will be the cost of ownership if and when it’s time to repair or replace those components.
I find my REV A trucks Run and drive equally compared to my REV B trucks….the biggest complaint from all my customers is the low top end, but I have to remind them the ECV platforms were designed to move a very heavy armored truck loaded with 4 fat guys a bunch of Ammo, water and MRE’s, not hopping from winery to winery on a Sunday.
Understanding the limitations of each platform is key to the longitivtiy of all your key components.
Towing and traversing long grades are the next major shortcomings, but understand these same shortcomings plagued the H1 as well….these very shortcomings lead to the no.1 reason for premature engine failure due to overheating in my shop. Here is a REV B I’m just finishing up that Grenaded, Installing a new long block from GEP $8k.
This vehicle is all about expectation…..and remember HMMWV= High maintenance money wasting vehicle

Ok, I have checked the auctions sparingly over the years and I thought I was dreaming. Why are trucks like that going so “cheap” now when a few months ago it seemed like 40-50k.

a non running 1151 didn’t even sell at 2500.

I’ve been watching and wanting to buy something but I didn’t count on the auctions bc of the high prices and title issue. Should I junpmm my on one of these!?

Diesel is $6.49 in my area. People can't afford groceries, let alone buy a humvee. It's a buyers market, proceed accordingly.

Lots of 1097R1s. How’s an R1 different than the A2s??
It should be anything with a 1 at the end are three speed trucks, V belts etc. 2s have 4 speed, serpentine belts etc.
As far as I can tell the R means they were "rebuilt" so they should have 6.5L engines.
But it appears some 4 speed trucks were sold as R1s so there you go...
