Disco radiator, rmove bottom nuts, tilt radiator forward, remove fan, THEN pull radiator.
Put Lifting eyebolts thru the holes where the top "X" connects the radiator to the firewall
and use eyebolts and straps to lift out radiator. So far so good, working alone and being a HC
gimp (no offense Gimpy!) kinda blows but I will get it done.

I do not believe I need to LOWER the tranny, I just have to Disco it I think.
Rear driveshaft is pulled, all air lines and umbilical disco'd, one one bolt at
top left holding on Tranny. I have a 2000 pound tranny jack under it .
Does anyone have any wisdom or pointers for me?

So, Dam the torpedos, screw the crybabies that DEMAND I bring the truck to them to do this engine swap.
I have been packing my tools and traveling to peoples homes for a lifetime. My disgust is massive.
I will do it, I will do it alone if need be and I PRAY I don't get hurt. Dropping the tranny and refiitting it is my
biggest worry. Effin scary that is. Off we go...
Praying that your engine swap goes smoothly and uneventfully.

By the way.... You aren't really "doing it alone" so long as your have that ahndy-dandy forklift to to a lot of the heavy lifting for you!

Got the wife Baptized in the river Jordan and I even reconfirmed myself. The MOST
incredible trip EVER... The pic of the River Jordan is VERY close to where we planted
an Olive tree adjacent to Rev Billy Grahms Olive tree on the River Jordan for
Aaron Vaughn. ( https://forourson.us/index.html ) His mother and father were there,
Karen and Billy and a LOT of other INCREDIBLE folks as well... I will NEVER FORGET...
How the Good Lord put me there, in that spot, w/ those folks is an incredible story
in-and-of-itself... Something about "Strange and Mysterious Ways" comes
to mind... :) I am Blessed.

So... I didn't like the HUGE distance and the Tranny jack extended so high so I
stuck a platform under it all plus some 1/4" steel plate, raising things 4" inches.
I will plumb the jack level and level this platform and I think I will be the smarter
for it b4 I unleash 1600? Pounds of weight onto it... Again, why lower the
tranny? I only need to disconnect. Next caomes SAFETY CHAINS under the tranny
in case of Harbor Freight Tranny Jack Failure...

I leveled up that Wooden tranny jack "pallet" riser and took another look at things.
I may have erred it disconnecting the tranny... The more I look at this the more
it looks like I can just support the FRONT of the tranny and slide engine out forward
leaving tranny in place... The rear of the 7155 has a leaft spring type of hanger,
it will NOT fall at the rear... SO I put a little force up w/ the tranny jack and removed
all but 4 bolts and added a Safety CHAIN under the front of the tranny.

Next Disco all and prepare PULL that beast of a MASSIVE engine...

What a great thread Artisan!

Please pass the word to other big truck owners in your area that "Big Trucks" are one of the featured showcases at the annual Camp Plymouth Swap Meet & Military Vehicle Display April 14-19, 2020. 2 1/2 ton and up trucks. Display will be Thursday 1-4 pm in the arena on the fairgrounds side of the event next to the Tent Sector campground. All big military trucks welcome, any condition, no fee. This will turn into a discussion group with all "big iron" in the same place. Magazine pictures will be taken for an article or two. There are rumors of a parade later.

We see a lot of people attend from SoCal and some drive their MVs. Long haul but I wonder if someone could organize a convoy, meeting others along the way up 99? Ditto those in NorCal and the Northwest, or in Nevada. The nice thing about a file of slow vehicles is only the guy in the back gets rear-ended! If group trips are planned we can advertise it an upcoming MVCC newsletter and get the word out in other forums. The other two showcases are "Armored Vehicles" and "HMMWVs."

This event is in Plymouth, CA and is the successor to the Camp Petaluma, Camp Delta, Tower Park, and Patterson meets going back to the late 1970s. Largest annual MV event in the West. It is at Amador County Fairgrounds and 49er RV Village. Details and the tentative daily schedule are on www.MVCCNews.net and on the Upcoming Events forum on SS. There you will see some posts by showcase POC BigMike. Dry camping is pretty inexpensive and trucks that don't fit in campsites can be parked/displayed nearby.

This was the hardest part yet, getting the harness totally disco'd
and out and off in one piece, everything labeled, nothing broken.
Darn thing extends back to tranny AND has a lead to a 12V Battery post!
Remember, when kneeling on that front fender my head is probably
at least 8-9' off the GROUND! I "think" I am down to 4 engine bolts
and a lift and disco from tranny. I will fit this harness onto the new engine
all tidy B4 install... I think harness is labeled 2007.

You say that you're going to install the harness on the engine before installing the engine.
Take care that the harness doesn't get pinched off between the engine and the truck when you're shoe-horning the new engine in.

Dude, I really feel for you, going at this alone. I'd help if I wasn't 3200 miles away. Take it slow and safe.

The Jakes leg and alternater leg and driver side legs are all tucked in close to the block.
I am thinking about perhaps trying to find some high heat spiral wrap for added protection.
The main feed, and the legs to rear I will take care with and tuck out of the way for sure.

A bit of cheer here...and THANK GOD I was given 1/2 a brain.
I still have all my digits and limbs... TRANNY IS DISCO'd and HANGING!
I bought a couple of rachet straps so I could evenly pull rearwards
AND, I put a smigen of grease under the 7155 rear upper leaf-spring hanger.
Conditions are tough, 1/2 on dirt, 1/2 on old asphalt and all on a grade.
My safety chain could have been better placed. I have a 4x6 cut perfect and
under the jack and the safety chain and the 2000 HF floor jack which seems
to be working well. FOUR BOLTS holding the engine and OUT she comes.
This is by far the hardest mechanical job I have ever done, alone.

It is OUT! WHAT a BEAST ! ha! I had everything but the rear two
motor mount bolts to go and called a buddy to eyeball things for me
and we pulled the 2 rear bolts and a few minutes later out she came...
(It was IMPOSSIBLE to get a socket on the DS rear motor mount nut!
I will clearance that frame b4 anew goes back in, Dayim! )

Getting a dial indicator to set up the old bellhousing on to to the new
engine is next in assembly AFTER I sleeve the battery cables and clean
and and and doing prep...

Ugghhh...

What is the proper tool / method to spin the crankshaft while engine
is on the ground?

Is there a right and a wrong way to spin it directionally?

I have to swap bell housings from old to new.

To install anew I need to use a dial indicator to center the bell housing on the crank
to spec. Todays question is what is the proper tool to use to spin the crank when my
dial indicator is attached to the flexplate?

So I just opened the new engine and feasted my eyes upon it.
How Lucky am I ? Well, so long as simple plumbing and minor
electrical and bellhousing swap goes ok I should be golden.
This engine is BRAND NEW CUMMINS RECON...wow...

I will probably use my alternator, it is the upgraded system that
pushes my A/C...and all wiring is set up for it.

I don't know what I am doing w/ the parts in the cardboard boxes
yet, I think they are all Jake Brake affiliated.

That RED TAG says don't rotate crank? Is that just to maintain the
preservative some how? I will HAVE to rotate the crank to set up
the swapped over bellhousing..

I took pics of some of the 411 , if anyone sees anything note worthy
please let me know.

Ok, so you figured out how to rotate the engine but have you determined if it is safe to do so? What's with the red tag warning against this?

Top of the water pipe sensor is for the gauge. One on lower hose housing and the passengers rear are for the idiot light. Each one reports to the light in case of a hung thermostat for the rear sender or the lower for overheating during normal flow.

Drivers side are oil gauge and idiot light sensors
