Availability of multifuel engine starter

Most truck/ industrial engines use an SAE bolt pattern for the starter. Its when you get down to the car/ pickups where everyone has to be different.

Appreciate the hints to identify the 12-volt starter, it appears to be a DELCO 37-MT (10461058).....
I have no use for it, so if interested, make an offer. Weight is 51 lb.

The ones for the deuce...or 99% of the rest of HD engines are 42MT. The bolt pattern is the same, the are indexed by the capscrews in the mounting flange. The bendix should have 11 teeth.

That bolt pattern is quite common. I have a 12 volt laying under my shed that came of a V-8 Detroit in A Chevy C-65 that looks just like that.

The bendix should have 11 teeth.
So what should I do, cut one off? :) (all my starters have 12 teeth...)

Seriously, could there be different versions for the same application? As far as I know all MF engines have a 138T ring gear. :?

Q. is where goes which one or when did they use other than a 12T bendix?

I have two Tooele rebuilt MF engines still in the crate. One is a LDS 427-2 with a #53011-1 starter but having the 12T bendix (100% confirmed!) and the other one is a LDS465-1A with a #53011-2, also 12T.
Two more LDT465s to be checked tomorrow. And your LDS465-2 also has the 011-2!

Confusing... and if there is any rule applying to this all, there sure are exceptions too!

Received the starter from kipman and it is the same brand, year and model as was used on my 8x8. :)
Looking very good, very much appreciated! A money order for the shipping charges will be in the mail later today.

Even the rotation of the drive head is the same, 75°.

The towbar is not in the way, so take your time making arrangements for it.

Sorry to bring up a 3 yr old post but I think I have some info that might be helpfull. Leece-Neville starter on my 1971 M35A2 with LDT-465-1D needed replaced. Local starter shops would not rebuild it because they do not rebuild Leece-Neville. They wanted to sell me a reman Delco for $250 with 6 month warranty. They would not take the Leece for the core charge because they do not rebuild Leece. Called Delco-Remy tech, gave them the specs off my Leece starter and found a brand new new model Delco that will fit. It is aluminum, weighs about 33 lbs and has an indexable mounting flange with no nose cone. I called around and the best price I found was $328 out the door from Glen at http://www.diesel-plus.com/home.cfm I bought it, had to rotate the mounting flange to clear some items, installed it and it has worked great so far.

Model 39MT (there are several part #'s but only one that will replace the multifuel 12 tooth that I have)
