This is a great thread but so long...I've tried to read it all. Three questions: 1. So at this point, what is the thoughts on durability? 2. What do you use as primer on bare metal? 3. Can you choose the finish as in eggshell vs. flat etc.?
You're asking about the various differences in "sheen" for finish coats.

Here's a little summary about that you'll want to check out:

I think he means he can match the standard Behr codes. When we get these FS codes made up they consider them custom codes. HD can scan their bar code to match.

I repainted my M35 over the winter in my neighbors RV garage. Used a brush as I could not spray inside.
This is what the truck looked like when I got it home:

And after it was finished:

Now I'm working on the inside of the Cab and replacing the old nasty open cell foam on the back of the cab and roof.

Does anyone have a current Behr code for FS 33446. My local hardware store can look up behr, but not FS
Drop the FS and just use the number.

Nice truck Back2Wyo.

I've bought some very fine brushes that with a tad of flotrol, one can hardly see a mark. I highly recommend brush and roller.

Well, I finally finished reading this entire thread. I'm ready to take the plunge and go the Behr paint route. I plan to use Behr Marquee. Color is 24087 semi-gloss I'm going for Vietnam period correct. I have a couple questions for the guys painting with the H.F. gravity gun.

1) How to thin it, if any? I've read a lot about Floetrol and H2O. Qty needed of each or just one? Again, I'm going for 24087 semi-gloss Vietnam Era.
2) Air pressure used? The gun has a range of 20-70 PSI.
3) The nozzle tip is 1.4mm. OK?

Thanks,

Bigmike

I am a little lost, I have not read this thread but I do commercial painting - behr marquee is an interior latex, flotral is for smoothing out brush marks in the paint. I have never put interior latex on the exterior of a vehicle.

If you are spraying you should not need flotral at all. It actually slows the paint drying and allows it to level better and thus the brush marks disappear. water to thin it properly if it is water based and you can use flotral but it will actually cause more runs when sprayed.

penetrol is for oil based but does the same thing, it is meant to level brush marks and is not really needed when spaying. You need an oil base thinner appropriate to the paint you are using in addition to the penetrol, normally it will not thin it enough, it mainly slows the dry time.

Slowing the dry time hurts you on a vehicle especially if you do not have a paint booth. The longer it is wet the more crap to stick to it.

If people are using latex paint with success on their vehicle it is new to me, I just wanted to pass on the info about flotral and penetrol.
I don't know anything about the HF guns

good luck

GOOGLE is our FRIEND.

Goto GOOGLE and enter "BEHR MARQUEE EXTERIOR". You will find it is available as EXTERIOR and a great deal of other information on this product line.

Thanks for all the valuable input in this thread.

I recently got one of those H.F. paint guns for CHEAP and plan to repaint our Deuce before the coming Toys-For-Tots toy drive season.

I'm using 1.4 needle and nozzle on mine at 45 ish. (+/- 7 psi) find the correct pressure and mark it on your dial with a piece of tape, so the next time you paint something, you can find its happy place.

I didnt find any need to thin it at all. Just adjust your gun properly and test it out on a piece of cardboard.

Good luck!

Oops, sorry, I am using a HVLP gun from Home Depot not the H.F gun. I think it was under $60

I can understand saving pennies, but I shy away from most HF products.

Your milage may vary.

We just mixed in a tad of water with each refill of the sprayer, it helped thin it out through the sprayer itself. Still dried quickly.
