Yes, the DOGHEAD mod is a must do. Save yourself from a meltdown.

What a the round containers left and right sides of the rear cargo section of the truck? They look like storage containers (nice idea).

the Containers are just Loudspeakers.

this m1009 was stationed in arkansas, little rock afb.
than showed up in texas at a electrition company called "grant electric"
used as a maintanance car. you can see a lot of cucv`s in the yard...(ss member?)
i discovered my cucv there on the "steet view" pix.
there she is next to the duce...
I was stationed with the owner of Grant electric many years ago(24) in Bermuda. He was a Seabee Electrician great guy. I am trying to get him to part with a M1008.

after 2+ years driving this m1009,
i am pretty glad that i have no issues since 8 month.
i had almost every defect a m1009 could get!
ill try to create a list of all i did to make this O´9 a nice ride.

Rough running engine and ticking noise in cold start, only 90km/h, poor heating power...

-New Diesel Fuel Filter
-New Air Filter
-Repaced cracked cooland reservoir
-New AC Delco 60G glowplugs
-New Glowplug controller card
-NOS injectors (tested, 5 of 8 where bad an needed do be overhauled)
-Replaced the Fuel gauge with a used one.
-New Heater Switch

Cooler leaking, Transmission leaking, Fuel lines Leaking, proportioning valve leaking. air in the diesel system.

-New front rubber brakelines
-New proportining valve
-New rubber fuel line
-New diesel pump (generic product not working, a new ac delco fits to the fuel pump push rodgeneral)
-New Vacuum pump

Noise from the Engine Block
-Lost a bolt at a front shock and a bolt at the steering pump bracked

Rear axle defect, bad noise
-New bearings

U-joint defect
-New bigger Driveshaft and u-joints from high angle driveline

Bad Starter noise, scratiching on the flywheel
-New Starter

Bad Glowplug Relay, 5x 60G glowpugs defect
-Again 8xNew AC Delco 60G glowplugs

Hydrobooster and New Proportional valve leaking
-New Hydrobooster and Proportional valve again, change to dot 3

Bad Starter Noise again, th 400 defect, No accerleration sometimes
-New Flywhell
-New Overhauled Starter again
-TH 400 Rebuild
-New Fuel Injection Pump, 180HP Tuning Pump <--The ticking noise in coldstart is gone. Low pressure problem on the old one
-New Modulator

Whiper motor defect
-Replaced with a used one

Leaking Cooler
-Replaced with a new one

poor Heating power
-Heater Radiator Repaced with the recommended on this page
still poor heating power, maybe a valve not closing correctly.

fuel gauge defect again. at full, pointer shows 4'o clock

Starter permanent runing problem
-New Starter again
-Doghead Relay Mod

Gen 2 Defect
-Gen 2 Rebuild
-Gen 1 Rebuild
-New T-Belts

Gearshift Pointer out of order
-New Grearshift Pointer

After Gen Rebuild, New 12v Dash Lamp, Sanding the copper socket, New Gen 2 Relay and cleaning all gound terminals...the GEN2 Lamp still not working! drives me crazy

Thx ODFever, this is a bundeswehr redcross canvas. i used a pair of "poles" from the bundeswehr camouflage net to build a shelter.
