You notice the difference more at lower speeds, hearing protection is still required at higher speeds. Imo.

I put a Walker Big Truck muffler on my Deuce W/D turbo. It made it quiet enough to drive around town without ear plugs. Over about 45 MPH the rest of the drive-train is singing and howling so you still need hearing protection on the highway.

doesn't sound like much, but 4 db's is significant.
3db down = half as much power when dealing with RF, not sure if this applies to sound, but if it does. . .
I put the same muffler (moroso) on my Deuce much nicer.

If I had to guess the aero muffler reduced sound by 3-4db. As stated before it doesn't seem like much but the way the decibel system works that is a significant reduction in sound. If I was driving around town muffs are now unnecessary. On the highway I still will wear them. Only now because of the drivetrain whine. The engine still isn't too bad at wide open but that howl from the drivetrain wears on your ears after a while.

I plan on insulating my cab in the near future also. That should really help with the drivetrain noise but I'm not expecting any miracles.

Probably not. It won't fit around the muffler and it really doesn't look bad without it. Once everything is painted it really won't be noticeable. But nothing is set in stone yet.

True, making one would be easy enough. But honestly with the muffler there I think a big shroud would look gaudy. I prefer a much simpler clean look. Not to mention where the stack comes out on the deuce I can't really see how you would touch it. My shroud was mounted up pretty high already for some reason and I have never burned myself on it. Of course now that I bragged on myself thats the first thing I'm gonna do lol.

With the large walker muffler I can have a normal conversation at highway speeds. But boy do you sure notice other noises in the truck!
Nothing I need hearing protection for though. And yes it is a flow through design and it seems built in resionator also.

You're welcome peashooer! The only thing I have against the smaller Donaldson is a concern about how restrictive it is. Can anyone speak to the design details of the short Donaldson? Does it have an obstruction inline or is it really a straight-thru perforated tube (is what they publish really true)?

I don't have pics but I remember a dome shaped obstruction in it (so not straight through unobstructed). It wasn't a total block though, but enough to deflect the sound. I'm pretty fussy and I think it's a very quality muffler that installed without modification.... But I haven't seen all the others either so do your homework (as brianp454 obviously is) if you are in the market for one. I just really wanted to stay away from the giant walker muffler and glass packs.
