Moving the fifth wheel plate back would put the load behind the center pivot of the tandem axle, potentially taking too much weight off the front axle.

Finally getting a chance to do some upgrades to the deuce tractor!
Installing the pp7 and tp3 tractor protection valves and a double check valve for hooking up the trolly brake.
Also changing out the old sprag to an air shift transfer case, got lucky and found a set of warn lockout hubs that I traded a radiator for!
These upgrades will make a big difference on my upcoming Ga Rally trip!more pics in a few days.

Thanks to QUADJEEPER for his much needed help, could not have done this without him.
Used the military transfer case/transmission hoist, this device really simplifies removal and install.
The swap couldn't have gone smoother in spite of getting rained on!

How many cranks on that ratchet to get the transfer case into position Ray, hundreds? Made my arm tired just thinking about it! That wench is just the ticket though, I'm sure it would have been a bigger pain doing it any other way.

Thanks Ray! Not too bad on the cranks, maybe two minutes from top to bottom, but a little more resistance on the way back up.

I have been working on this truck for days now and
happy to say that I'm 99% done with planed tasks and upgrades before my Ga Rally trip!
The tractor protection valves are now installed and plumbed(per the Bendix install guide) using DOT approved compression fittings and polly air brake line.
The Protection system has been tested and functions as should, the trolly brake is now hooked up and functional
as well!
Other tasks completed since my last post are: transfer case airline plumbing, transmission and transfer case lube changed and chassis completely greased.

Installing a pyrometer this week!

Installed the pyrometer and hooked it up, it works great!
I bought the gauge used in perfect condition on ebay,didn't realize it was a 3" gauge until I opened the box but I like it, bought the can mount ,thermocouple and lead from the gauge manufacturer.
The thermocouple install was pretty easy, took 10 min!
Had the engine running while drilling through and tapping, be sure to wear safty glasses when doing this!

5th gear with my foot in it about 800 to 900f.
