Easter find M1008 2015

I could use some free bricks too. How long would it take him to get to my house?

Funny thing is. I have several thousand used bricks. When they tear down buildings and have brick piles I am right there. I have done a lot of masonry work on my property with salvage bricks. I had a friend that was in his 80's and he loved doing masonry work in trade for a CUCV M1028 that he had and I traded him a double chimney, and many other projects. He has passed now and I still have lots of his work as a memory. Firefox I think we think alike. I still pick them up when ever I can. Some are hand made over 200 years old. Some are just plain poor and crumble after being exposed to weather for a few years.

I only learned a couple of years back that a lot of the area farmers here with land on the rivers (VA, MD, the Mid-Atlantic), typically made bricks in the off-season.

It was their cash "crop" during the non-growing months. Kind of cool to know about.

Around here we have to wait for earth quakes. The chimneys fall down and the bricks end up on ceaigslist for next to nothing.

Late in the season to paint outside.

Painted the wheels outside. Lately I am racing the sun. I got them done and then carried them back into the barn. Wheel farming is easier the pigs I used to have in the barn. This is the back side of the wheels. Tomorrow weather permit I will get the front side painted. They were very slow to dry today. glass is all back in the M1008. I always like the nice edge less finish on all the rubbers. I was surprised that the door rubbers were reusable. I replaced them 20 years ago. Thanks for l Hope I am not boring you. More progress tomorrow. I am going to mount 4 LT 235/85R16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrak tires on the M1008 wheels. I hope to have it back on the wheels after next week. Getting cold and late in the season. I still have the Mirrors and head lamp bezels to paint. I removed the factory style dash corner speakers if anyone wants them for a steal deal. Hit up. They fit in the corner at the dash and use the factory holes.

Last night I made a good deal of progress. Not huge but I did manage to get the front bumper and brush guard back on the M1008. I bought new Stainless 1/2" carriage bolts and a box of 1/2" serrated flange nuts. Made putting the bumper and brush guard on a breeze. Finger tight till the end. Then a simple flex head 3/8" long handle ratchet with a 3/4" deep socket and all was well. No pain and no need for an impact. I will get some pictures tonight. And as a bonus I put the back bumper in the frame rails and put 4 bolts in it. I needed to get some new bolts for the rear bumper also. I bought 1/2" flange bolts and crimped lock nuts for the back bumper thru frame. They will never come loose with out help. Thanks for looking. I will take pictures. I hope to have the new tires on the truck in the next day or 2. Then get it out for Line X and alignment. Everything is out of whack up front. I changed everything on the front end. Sounds like you're pulling it all together.

That stainless hardware is a bit pricey, but it'll always return your money in the long run.

Just one less thing to worry about. I guess that's my two cents.

Front bumper/brush guard all adjusted and tight. Nice even gap across the front. Rear bumper all bolts on and loose. I could not find my SAE flat washers. I will be making an order at Fastenal tomorrow. No half fast work going on here. I have the appointment all set up at Line X for October 31. 4 new LT23585R16 Goodyear Duratrak tires all mounted and balanced. These type of tires make the truck and give it the awesome look I am out to get. Best all around tires I ever used. The guy at the tire shop was a bit rattled that he scratched the fresh paint on the wheels. i told him don't sweat it. Nothing a guy can't fix while he is spraying over the wheel weights with the flat black. Took off early tonight. Why? Because I wanted to. Have a great day.

Done a lot of small work the past 2 nights. hooked up the fuel fill and installed the fuel filler door. Removed a GM AM/FM Cassette player from the dash and reinstalled a radio cover plate. Replaced the starter relay with a new AC Delco one. Cleaned all the fuse connections and blew out the fuse box and under dash area. Getting it ready for the Line X on Tuesday. Pictures tomorrow. Tonight I installed the tires and wheels, the fuel fill, new E brake cable cab to mid ship. Headlamps are back in. I really like the way these trucks sit with the new springs front and rear. No lift kit needed. They ride great with the new 4 ply front springs and set up real nice. I am going to be putting the rear wiring and the tail lamps in tomorrow. I have to get mirrors and head lamp bezels painted. Moving along nicely. I must get the spare tire rack back up under the rear. Tomorrow is another day.

Enough sitting around and looking at a stupid screen. That gets nothing done but that. Time to get the garage bay empty. I smell fresh CUCV brewing for the slaughter house project. I think that may be my new project name. M1009 Slaughter house return. After sitting wrecked and green fungus and moss growing on it. It will be real interesting to get it in the barn and tear into it. Coming soon. Have a great day. I am going home to wire the rear lights and get this truck out of my barn. Well I exceeded my goal. I have all the lights installed and working. All the B/O lamps installed and working. I installed a new LED license light. It is a Truck Lite. I re-taped all the rear wiring harnesses. I did not take it outside because we are supposed to get rain heavy tonight and tomorrow. I do not have the cab seals installed yet. I will do that when it gets back from Line X. I need to make a spare tire support rod. I did not install it when the bed was off. I know a simple better set up anyway. The one that ws on was a bit rough anyway.I installed the light for the license plate. Keeps the police away. I even installed the bridge plate. Not bad for a days work. imagine if I didn't have a regular job. This is an irregular job.

I was off the grid for 48 hours. Had electric but no internet. Shame shame shame. We had some serious wind shear damage here in Pennsylvania at Midnight Monday AM. The force was strong enough to topple a 3 ft dry stacked stone wall on my property. I spent a great deal of time setting the rocks back in place again. This tent was a storage area. I just emptied it 2 weeks ago. It was full of doors and other material that would have made nice sailing material. The top is about $5K and a new one is ordered. This old one is about 15 years old and was getting dry and brittle. The wind made quick work of finishing it off. I was able to get Easter find to the Line X appointment yesterday and will post pictures later tonight. I have a full day of tree and limb cleanup. I was called strange because I bagged all the sticks and placed them out by the curb for the trash man. Some others were throwing the sticks in the corner and calling it a day. I felt my way I pick them up once and bag them and they are gone. A person stopped by and said they wanted fire starting sticks I said no worries. I have 10 bags of them. They loaded them all and took off. What is trash/scrap to one is what others are looking for. Even trade. They burn coal and are going to bring me a few buckets of coal ash. Sure you all know what that is for. But wanted to give an update. In case you cared to know. If not. Well have a nice day anyway. This picture reminded me of the Hindenburg.

All out in the sun again for a while. I loaded it up and hauled it to the Line X dealer. I have some touch up to do on the under side to cover the green mist. I was sanding mirrors and bezels last night. Then I was building a paint cabinet to get the paint materials out of my shop. I have been working torching and welding in it for years. Had a little scare and decided the time was now. I picked up some really nice under body tool boxes 24 X 48 and made a rack to mount them on in another room of the shop. I see it as a plus. Have a great day. With any luck I can get the truck back today. I am still off the grid at home. Big storm done some damage to something internet related.
