It looks like Oshkosh took another bite out of the DoD pie. No mention of rebuilds in the article, wording suggests new production only. The A2 units look like an MRAP and an LMTV had an accident. Im going to call it a VOMIT: Vehicle Of Mobile Infantry Tactics.

"The Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles A2, as it's called, will comprise 16 models and trailers capable of hauling payloads up to 10 tons and performing a wide range of tasks including support of combat missions and relief efforts."

"It wouldn't be difficult to transform the A2, which is packed with new technologies, into an autonomous vehicle, according to Williams."

"The contract, which Oshkosh won in competitive bidding, is for five years plus two one-year option periods. In its solicitation for bids, the government called for 2,400 vehicles, although that's not a firm figure, as there's no set limit."

Also appears longer with longer wheelbase with no more space. I’m sure it’ll be safer for soldiers encountering IEDs...but with less maneuverability. I also wonder if all future medium duty tactical vehicles will be armored...essentially bringing an end to civilian access to this class of MVs...???

Oshkosh was on a roll with design on the M-ATV, but this is the ugliest truck they have ever produced, and they have made some stinkers. So I guess a bigger engine wouldn't fit under the Stewart and Stevenson designed cab, and they were too lazy to retool the cab, so they cheaped out and put the engine back out in front, negating the advantages of the short cabover design.

FWIW, looks like it might have IFS...

Though, I don’t think I care about this truck...not very relevant to us civilians...

Maybe we need to lobby early for the salvage as components. When I saw such large quantity of MRAP's destroyed and the "off the shelf" components totally destroyed, not recovered as components for citizen purchase, it has to be a HUGE factor in government waste. When they are using components that have international specifications, engines, transmissions, axles, cranes, these items should be recovered for the citizens that still owe the public credit card bill on them.
