Also looks like you may have a bad fuel level sensor. I don't think the gage is normally that far left when turned off.
You'll know once you get your batteries installed. If it's bad its a pretty simple fix using an aftermarket marine style sending unit.

I'd have fluids in it & crank it up already. But I can't help myself when stuff shows up. Can usually figure out if it's parts or a project right away.

Yeah unfortunately I have had a stroke and my right side is screwy so "quickly" isn't something I can do It will get going today though. I put the oil filter on and filled that, filled the coolant, dropped in the two batteries but didn't didn't hook them up yet. Today I need to get diesel and connect the batteries up and see.

I was just being me! I know not everyone is me, haha. Not everyone gets as excited as I do to just make an old engine come to life or is able to. Beside, I grew up in CT. Even without the physical challenges you have, I'd be hiding next to a wood stove by this time & not wanting to exist. I love my south Texas weather. So after all that there was a leak also. I buttoned up the oil and had that sorted, went to prime again and saw it dripping steadily out of this part here. I am sure it is in the TM somewhere Any pointers?

That's where the return line starts. Goes up, over the engine, and back down over the genhead, and back to the tank.
Plan on removing the engine roof, and fuel tank cover, and replacing the whole thing. They ALL leak. I replace with Gates safety stripe hose and have not had a single instance of failure in almost 10 years and more retrofits than my hands care to remember.

Don't worry about the "battery" the Ammeter only shows you the amount of charge or discharge amps while running.
With the machine off it will always read right between the red and green. With it running it should go up to the right into the green after starting and slowly settle back very close to the red/green transition once the batteries are charged.
Once you get the fuel return lines replaced, go ahead and try again.
The one concerning thing I see ( heard ) was a bit of a lack of compression pulsing when you were cranking it.
It kind of sounds like its spinning too fast and too easily, as if maybe the valves are hanging open.
Hopefully I'm wrong, but don't be surprised either.

If your going to do fuel lines, do em all. Will save you much time and anger if you do them now, and not again in a few weeks/months.

Ok so tomorrow I'm going to try taking it apart and doing the fuel lines. Any pointers for them? How do I get them all off? And anything I should do in addition? I have the fuel tank nuts but seeing as I just put 3 gallons in I don't want to pull the tank if I don't have to Diesel is expensive! I will figure it out but thought I should ask!

So drain the diesel out. Thats what the petcock is for.
