Pretty amazing... The most exciting thing is to see the wings start to fly as it begins to lift off. Much like the B-52 where the pogo's under the wing tops fly the wing to the point of dropping them at take-off with a full load of fuel.

Oh, to answer your question, I Don't know why the engine intake and exhaust are above the wing center line. I do know the aircraft spent a lot of time in the wind tunnel. So, the engine location on the wing was probably the result of the wind tunnel tests. There are a number of the L-188 commercial variant still flying today.

Never noticed before but a turbo-prop (the P-3), with the intake and exhaust ABOVE the wing:

The MAD (magnetic anomaly detection) boom out the back needs the least possible interference and the intakes on top is much like the B2 with intakes on top. Makes the plane quieter...
