HMMWV M1097R1 specific

Basic paint prep and tons of sanding to include heavy degreaser and using a hot pressure wash. Paint and primer are single stage urethane that use catalyst and reducers then shot through a cheap Lowes HVLP gun.

How did your HMMWV look on arrival? Progress?
It started right up and drives but pulls to the right, someone local is going to show me how to align it. Alternator rattles a bit but other than that I’ve still been driving it after a full lube up. Need to figure out why the heater doesn’t blow on the drivers side floor because that will hurt my ability to drive it in winter.

Address the alt ASAP, usually loose and or broken bolts.

I would like to correct something here. This is not a list of TM's you need to work on the truck. This is a list of MWO's, (Modification Work Orders) that has been applied to the truck.

All those TM numbers you see should be the TM's you will want to use when working on your 1097.

I just noticed this tag when looking at other MWV’s. This is a 1987 M998 (I may have the year of manufacture wrong) that went through the program in 2009 and was then given the M1097R1 model. They call it a 1987 M1097R1.
Thats a lot like mine it's a 91 that they redid in 2012. Even has the tag like yours on it. Makes me wonder at a certain point say 20 years old if they undergo a upgrade or get rid of kind a deal.

I have a M1097R1 I just purchased...I know by the designation it is a recapped Hmmwv with a 6.5 Litre. Engine. My question is simple here because I am old school military and a Military truck collector as shown by my pic. When I put the truck in drive it runs great. but when I put the truck in reverse I hear a clunk from the rear differential then it goes away. I climbed under the truck and checked for loose transmission mounts, rear axle being loose and U joints check and all check out ok. When I drive the truck there is no vibration or winning sounds at all. The only thing I notice is I can turn the rear drive shaft and somewhat create the same sound in the rear differential. The rear shaft move a short distance then connects with spider gear in differential. How tight should this tolerance be? Is this normal for these trucks or am I looking at a future problem? Thanks for any advice.

I have the plate that states mine is a 1097R1 but it appears to have had little modified. I still have a 6.2 engine. Officially it's a 2007, but I don't think of it that way.

If you're asking if it is normal to have play in the pinion (input) shaft to the differential the answer is no, those bearings are supposed to have a preload, read they should be tight.

Just finished assembling PlanB top, doors, and bumper on my 06’ 1097r1. Passed inspection and got tags. I live outside of town and speed limit is 55 to go anywhere and the 3 speed sucks at over 45 as you all know. I dunno, my M1097R1 will go 65MPH all day & it's a 3spd. Had it pointing all the way down at one point, I think 72mph. Yeah, it's revved. I'll get a 4 speed truck for driving around more.

Took it from Wilson County to Ft. Sam Houston and back in the interstate. Who needs an A/C kit with no doors and the back rolled up going 65mph?!

I thought I was doing 65 until I installed a GPS unit in mine. My gauge is off by about 7 mph. When I get mine to 60 it’s rough. At 65 it’s scary.
