Just bought my first Deuce!!

Awesome find!! We are looking forward to the Gilbert show next month here in northeast PA. I just scored as NOS cargo cover for my deuce. Just got it today, waiting till I refinish the bed before putting it on.

Did one of the dumbest jobs I've ever had to do on a vehicle today.

Getting my cargo cover tomorrow, and in preparation I inspected my troop seats. Noticed I had a board broken off in one of the upright holders.

Pulled the troop seat out, and then noticed the stake pocket was bent.

Fought with it for a while. Finally decided to remove that pocket, and get it where I could work with it. After a couple precision hits with the 10 pounder, I bent the pocket back to almost original form. Then removed the broken upright piece. Sadly, in my world, the good ideas are never the first ones.

A photographer friend wanted to shoot the deuce. So we did.....

Got the cover on. Since part of the reason I got the cargo cover was to use the deuce as a "camper," we decided that we were going to spend a couple night out in the truck. This is a huge milestone for me because momma HATES HATES HATES the truck. Got her out there helping, and she even camped with me and the boys for two nights!!

However, I think I am going to find an m105 and make that our camper. Something a little more permanent.

Took the cover off for some improvements. Painted all of the corners and bows tan, and got the updated straps needed for my cover.

Kept the cover off for the winter as to not damage the bows from the weight of the snow.

Recently pieced together my sugar scoop, spacer, plate, and antenna for the truck. I think it'll look better with the cover on.

Used the truck at work for an "employee appreciation day" event. Started the truck and turned off the truck after every group. Better than 30+ times all day. She never faltered. Biggest group was 27 people at one point. They've already "penciled me in" for next year.

Finally found the time to install my water heater. It came with the truck, and I just haven't had a chance to get it in there. Well, old man winter is gonna start a full court press here pretty soon, so I figured I had better get after the winterization process.

Remove the air cleaner assembly,

Find your starter solenoid, remove the two bolts holding the bracket to the block, and locate the plug in the block right behind it. It's a 3/8NPT plug. For the directional, water circulator this will feed the "IN" side of the heater.


At the thermostat housing is where I decided to flow my hot water back into the block. I have seen many different configurations, but on mine the top plug that faces the passenger side of the truck was just a blank plug. Below it was coolant temp I think, and the other one was to my cab heater. I didn't want to "break the seal" on the cab heater, or alter it in any way, so I extended past it with a pipe and then added my 90 degree elbow. I got that idea from another SS member who had posted up some pics.




I decided to add on/off valves to the unit as well since I was doing this surgery. Why? I can think of a number of reasons, but, why not? If the heater itself fails, I can just close off the valves and replace it without loosing all of my fluid. If I develop a leak in the heater system, I can close the valves and not loose anymore fluid until it can be properly fixed. Whatever. I view it the same as a condom.....you are better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.


I mounted to the inner fender itself. The SS member I tried to mimic had a way better mount set up on his, but with my limited time, i'm guilty of taking the fastest, easiest route. I didn't go off half cocked though. I drilled, painted so as not to rust, then used nylon lock nuts on the other side so they won't vibrate loose. I do need to back in there, and loom some starter wires, and preemptively fix the large wire harness that rubs on the frame (located below the air cleaner housing) so as to not start another fire like the one I've already had. I thought I had done this one, but must have missed it.

Threw my cold front on yesterday. Got my keyed battery switch in the mail, hope to do that today or tomorrow if the weather holds. While i'm messing with the batteries, i'll be installing my Solargizer was well.
Also searching for a nut for my stock air wiper arm.

Picked up a Haldex air dryer this week. I plan to install it where the pioneer rack is located. Any thoughts, or reservations on this location?

After hearing the horror stories, I was hesitant to drive her in the snow. Aired down to 20psi, and put 1000lbs of firewood in the back. Handles fine. Just have to treat her like a big truck on slippery roads and all is well.

Decent day yesterday, so I started putting the bows back on for the cargo cover. Going to get her ready for a car show next week.

My son and I showed our truck this weekend at an indoor show. It's an exclusive show that you have to send pictures in ahead of time, and you have to be voted in to even be in the show due to limited space.

The deuce took 3rd place in our class "special interest." Not sure out of how many. We don't really care. We didn't go for a trophy. We went to share our truck and to let people climb around on it and learn about it.

He was proud.
The younger one got painted like spider man. MADE HIS DAY!
Hanging out for a while in the back. We played cards in there, and he colored a lot of pictures over a 3 day car show.
