M1079 leaking air out the front bumper "Service" glad hand vent

Been working on my truck allot and never noticed the front blue service glad hand leaking air only when I push the brakes, I don't recall this happening before, Is this normal?

No, this has been discussed in prior threads, I believe there is a check valve behind the bumper that is the cause. My truck was leaking at the red glad hand, in that case the shuttle valve under the step needed replaced.

I searched "gladhand" in the FMTV forum and could only find discussions of the EMERGENCY side leaking. Sounds like one of the checkvalves.

Its one of those check valves drivers side with the cab tilted up in the front

I just checked the Air line diagram in the TM, it looks like the two way check valves under the drivers step is likely where the problem lies. The one behind the bumper is for the emergency gladhand. Here is a picture from the manual hope this helps.

I just replaced all threee of those check valves. They have old dried up rubber diaphragms in them, They are not expensive and pretty easy to change. Just do all three at once and be done.

PS, take a few good pics of the layouts of the fittings, you will need that to keep track of all the lines as they are all the same color

You can get kits to replace the diaphragms or new units & save the old units for rebuild. They also offer actual shuttle valve replacement units vs the ones with rubber diaphragms. Been there, done that, but no Tshirts were available. I had a similar problem with my truck & the repairs fixed the air leaking issues.

Have you downloaded the 24P part TM? That's a good start for part numbers. The part manual give 'CAGE" codes as who makes the parts. You can uses this link here to see who the company is.

1. If it twas a snake it would have bit you..... the very first forum on the very front page of this Steel Soldiers Bulletin Board contains links to the TM's (Tech. Manuals).
2. the very top of this FMTV forum contains another one that if it twas a snake; would have bit ya.... there is a sticky at the top about a spreadsheet full of part numbers commonly asked about....

two snake bites.... owww... that has got to hurt lol. Oh well..... we all live and learn right.

Seth it's the check valve right behind the passenger side shackle
You will have to remove those covers under bumper to get to it.
You can see it by looking thru the top of bumber and bottom of grill.

I have a similar issue with the front Blue glad hands front and back leaking air when i press the brake pedal. I removed them and plugged them up with a brass fitting. Now when i apply the brakes, the whole truck locks up. The reason i'm trouble shooting the brakes is thier was very little braking power to the rear wheels. I adjusted the rear brakes they are operating as they should. Im new to the site so and to online forums, so if Im hijacking your thread please let me know. Thanks Mike
