Hello everybody!!!

I just picked up a winch for one of my GMCs. I had plans of putting it on my M220 but after looking at the tm...it doesn't list a weight for M220 w/winch. Does anybody know if the the M220 every came with a winch.
I don't have any issue putting it on my M221 if they didn't in the interest of keeping it close to original.

I can't find any reference to the M220 having a winch in any of the TMs. There are some pictures on Google of a winch on an M220, but they are newer photos.

If you put the winch on your M220, I doubt anyone would say anything about it being incorrect.

Is that your truck in your avatar? If so, I'd love to see more pictures of it!

Thank you for the reply...i am still debating which way to go.

Yes that is one of my trucks in the avatar thing. I don't have very much on my phone in the line of photos but I'll try to remember to get some off the computer.

That truck went thru a 3 month mechanical and cosmetic reatoration to make it in time for the MVPA transcontinental convoy last year...ps it sat for 20+ years before the decision was made to get it done.

Your Truck looked and performed well on the convoy, as for your question on the winch on your truck tractor if you like it do it! A good example is my M135 it is on the road and it runs great at 55 mph, but for the next North West Park Convoy we will be camping in the back, but the top bows on the trucks used in the US only had 5 feet of head room so you cant stand up in the back. It seems the the Canadian Army had a better idea and raised up the side stakes 1 ft and pined them there so you have 6 ft of headroom in the back. This also means you have to use the Canadian pattern canvas of which I found a full set of NOS front and back curtains and the cargo top with the 12 inch extension the folds down when the top in in the raised position.

I have attached a photo of my truck with the new rear curtain installed with the rear bow in the raised position and the 12 in flap down.

Enjoy

Hope to see you on another convoy

Thanks for the advice Lt. Dan!!!

Im going to put the winch on the M221. I'm in the process of buying a M211 w/winch and I'm planning on putting that winch on the M220 temporarily in preparation for Alcan '22 (any word on if that is being/has been planned??).

Your M135 looks very complete and solid. Does it have front lockouts? (The hubs look longer than on my M135). I would recommend pulling the head and getting hardened seats in the head for the exhaust valves. They don't seem to like the new fuel for very long in stock form. I bought all new exhaust valves for all my 302s and just had 2 heads done. I have put one on the M221 so far and it runs much better than before...Well worth the $$$ for longevity.

The M135 came with Selectro free wheeling hubs, so i is the widest part of the truck, thinking about putting the driving flanges back on, I have taken the hubs off all my Jeeps as I just don't put that many miles on them.

As for the next convoy we may have to postpone the NWP'20 convoy we are trying to do this August till 2022, in 2020 is the Yellowstone trail from Seattle to West Point NY with a stop at the South Bend IN convention.

Not sure when we will go back to Alaska.

I recieved the new Canadian Cargo Top and here it is in up position that gives me 6 foot of head room in the back of the truck.20200506_115534.jpg

Where did you source the Canadian cargo top from?
