I'm a late arrival in this thread, but I think Chris's M923A2 looks great, and I loved all of the pictures (and I stashed them all away for future reference!). Recently I've been getting the idea that I might want to sell off my M35A2C dropside cargo truck and my M543A2 wrecker, and then get a 900-series cargo truck and put a knuckleboom crane on it like Bjorn did with his deuce. Maybe I'd use a dropside deuce bed behind the crane in place of the regular 5-ton bed, since the crane would take up a couple feet or so of space on the frame.

I want to have a crane handy for tasks like swinging my S250 shelter on/off my HMMWV. My wrecker does that job pretty well, but I think that a knuckleboom on a cargo truck might meet my needs better. If it was big enough to swing my bigger S280 shelter on and off the truck's cargo bed, that would be great!

I don't have any experience with the 900-series trucks yet, so the detailed pictures that Chris has been posting here have been especially interesting to me. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them, too!

Thanks guys! I'll see about some more pics ;) There are some projects I have lined up for it such as replacing the hood insulation and the PCB. The PCB is actually still working ever since I beat on it with a hammer. I need to pull the alt. to have it checked for proper output. I think it is OK, but the gauge moves a little funky every once in a while and the truck needed jumped at Aberdeen, but that may have been the PCB.

I am hoping to lay some paint on the bumper and tailgate sometime soon. I need to sandblast the tailgate first since it is a little crusty from living in Winslow's parts yard. Plus, it smells like fish oil :)

I found a truck was about 20 min. up the road so some weekend I'm going to run up there and wash down the underbody and the bed to get rid of the last of the WVO residue.

Stay tuned!!

You dont suppose that might have been the loose cables do you?? aua
Hmm, I suppose that is possible ;) but that doesn't explain why the batteries very low when we got home and why the voltage gauge would run to the bottom of the green when above idle and the kick into high charge at idle.

I took the truck for a spin yesterday. I love driving that dang thing. I decided to play with the CTIS a little. I haven't touched it since it started working because I didn't want to break it ;) So, it hasn't been aired down before. It just tops off any low tires before I drive it basically. Yesterday, I hit the X-C (cross-country) button to see what would happen. It blinked for a second and then, WHOOSH, it started airing down all six. It went through several air-down sessions to equalize all the tires. After that, the light went steady and all was well. The truck was sitting about an inch or two lower. Hopefully, my wife won't make me set it to the Sand setting every time she gets in it now! :)

I went for a little drive at X-C and then hit Highway to air it back up. Everything seemed to work just fine. Hopefully it will stay that way! I really would have liked to test out the Sand mode at Haspin this weekend. Oh well :(

Cool! Low Rider Mode!!! I hope it doesn't have a mode that makes the front wheels bounce up and down also! rofl Maybe, some Saturday night you should pull in to the local Taco Bell and "drop 'er into the weeds" as they say! Oh, the looks you would get!

Looks to me you could still make it! LOL. If it were only that easy, I would be there too. I need to hire someone to go to work for me so I can enjoy my hobby more frequently.

Chris, quick question, how long does it take to air down and air up?
I would think that to air up from say 10 psi to 60 psi could take some 20 minutes or more based on the compressor capacity, is that close?

Thanks,

Airing down is pretty quick. I'd say it took 5-7 minutes to get from Highway to X-C. I'd say it would probably be another 5-7 to get to Sand, but I haven't tried that. Airing up took considerably longer. If you are going from X-C to highway, it goes pretty quick if you a running down the road. Turbo boost feeds into the compressor and keeps the CFM's high. The manual says to hold the trans in a lower gear to keep the RPM's around 2000 for quick airing. If you go above a certain speed on the road, 40 mph I think, it will automatically switch to Highway mode.

I'll do a timed test for you sometime Bjorn ;)

Much appreciated!

To me it would make sense to have a much higher capacity compressor on board to go with this feature. I believe the standard one is like 7 to 10 cfm.

As I remember it takes what seems like a long time. It puts in a litte air then stop checks pres. then add some more stops checks then more air well you get the idea.

Hate to do it, but I am putting my 923A2 up for sale. I need some cash for various home improvement and business improvement projects. I'll put an advert in the classisfeds later.

$21,000 OBO, PM or email for details, pics, questions, etc...

WHAT?!?!? Oh, man! I wish you didn't have to do that, and I'm sure you wish you didn't either.

Still, I wonder if I could take out a third mortgage on the house... :D

Good luck, maybe something good will happen to help you out so you don't have to sell it.

Hopefully a fellow steel soldier will buy it so it will 'stay in the family'.

Sorry to see the need to sell it, but you must have put a lot of money into it and may be hard pressed to see a return on the investment in any other way.

If you have a chance, I would like to know more about the cycling times of the CTIS and did you ever figure the MPG?

Thanks and good luck!

PS. When you sell it and should you end up with play money, I know where you can get a running xm757...(no, not mine, never!). BB
