The parade went well, my generator took a crap going to the parade and my volts dropped into the red zone, lucky we had a few trucks to give me a charge for 1 hour before we started moving. Ordered a new gen this morning.FB_IMG_1541996232111.jpgFB_IMG_1541970931161.jpgFB_IMG_1541970937930.jpg

If the batteries are significantly discharged , the little 25A generator has a hard time charging. Maybe charge the batteries with a proper charger and then reassess.

The generator will only charge to what the regulator tells it to charge to. So I would guess the regulator needs adjusting or replacing. A good rule of thumb used to be, if you replaced the generator, you also replaced the regulator. A generator which had gone bad usually damaged the regulator too.
Even if your batteries where dead, the generator should show it was charging at the correct voltage level. It might not keep up with the demand of your electrical system, but it will charge at the correct voltage level, just not enough amps.
That is why you can run a vehicle without batteries in a generator system. As long as the engine is running, it will keep the spark going. You cannot say that in a "Alternator" system.
Though once you jump start a vehicle with an Alternator you usually can keep it running even with totally dead batteries. Just as long as the RPM's are kept up. I still remember bringing back home this old IHC truck with a totally dead/drained of fluid battery. We just added water and I kept up the RPM's when I came to a stop. It almost died at the end though. It took hours to get home and it had gotten dark. I needed to use the headlights, but when I got to our hill with all it's stupid speed bumps I had to slow down and creep over the bumps. Well the alternator couldn't keep the spark going and the lights at the same time so it started missing real bad . I ended up using a flashlight for the last mile home ! Oh and it was raining too !!!

Well I installed a new 28 volt 25 amp regulator and 4 rubber mount resilients today and that did the trick my volts are in high green so it looks like my charging system is ok for right now.

Special thanks to Dr evilporkchop for selling this regulator to me.
