Caught between a rock and a hard place! Need help on deciding how to add mud flaps and I may have to move the bed back 3" depending what I decide to do. Should I do the Tan style or the green set up? Suggestions please.2013-06-13 Mud Flaps 001.jpg2013-06-13 Mud Flaps 002.jpg2013-06-13 Mud Flaps 003.jpg2013-06-13 Mud Flaps 004.jpg

The Green setup looks more military and in style for the truck. Probably more practical for keeping rocks from flying also.

My 2 Cents and 50 dollars :)

Great setup, this looks very cool and a good short wheel base hauling truck. NICE NICE

I just picked up this thread...nice build.[thumbzup] Now for my 2cents. The quarter fender concept is definitely interesting. However, the standard flat mud guards look better and more original. I like 686 sand with hint of 383 green:driver:.

swiss, MothersanM1, Thanks for looking. I should have stated either way they will be painted 383 green and the quarter fender would have rubber flaps hanging down, I think I will make them longer than original I like the longer look and function of the extra long flap. If I go with the quarter fender I will have to make brackets and fender mounts whereas I could just mount the original deuce flaps directly to the back of the bed, I don't have a lot of tire clearance.

Warren,
Got a better persective with the other pictures, really nice work, -you have the idea down, one big pickup truck w/ the dual rear axles. The 5 ton bed is the optimum part for the mod, I may have to settle for a duece bed.
JC
If you are going to keep the truck, I would find a 900 series bed they look so much better and the bows and tarps are easier to find I believe.

To get an idea....20 X 30's from a M915 slightly modified on deuce mudguards. Just don't back over them (i.e. curb, steep incline):oops:...don't ask how I know.

MothersanM1, You sure have a good looking rig! I really like it, I haven't seen it displayed in a while.
Thank you, Sir. Much obliged.

Staves (uprights), corners and bows are interchangeable and easy to find for all M44 (2 1/2-t), M39, M809 and M939 series trucks. M813 and M54 trucks' covers should fit the 14ft. M939 cargo body.

I did this with my M932a1 a year ago. Here's my thread:

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?82926-M932A1-with-shorter-drop-side-deuce-bed

I didn't move the bed forward so I had room for the fuel cover on the right tank and also put the tow bar in the front part of the bed for storage. It looks and works great in my opinion. I used commercial style truck mud flaps as well and they are quick detachable and have been problem free.
rrr, I followed your build and followed your advise on leaving the duel axels, I did many of the same things to my build and I will do more in the future. I still have a long way to go. Where did you get the plastic coat? I put some undercoat under the bed where I welded it and I had to use a putty knife to apply it, I was going to put that on top of the bed but that is too much trouble. I like the inside of your bed and for that matter I love the Trucktor. I hope you don't mind me using some of your ideas. Thanks

Not at all !

That is what this forum is all about.

For bed liner I went to the local tractor supply and pickup up a gallon to do the bed. Money well spent. It did take a few hours to prep the bed.
I also did the same for my deuce.

Well I have busy in between a lot of family events, My 43rd anniversary was 6/19 and had another grand daughter Sunday and a birthday for my wife Sunday also. The birthday party was planned but not the baby, any way all is good. I got the bed back off the truck to drill the front holes to mount the bed and start the civy trailer hitch. I got the side brackets cut out today and bolted them to the frame to make sure I drilled the hole correct, they were perfect. I also got the tool boxes back on the morning. I also decided to go with the quarter fenders in the rear and attach a mud flap to the bottom of the fender, I will take pics when complete. Here are a few pics of the hitch and tool boxes.2013-06-24 932A1 CIVI trailer hitch 001.jpg2013-06-24 932A1 CIVI trailer hitch 006.jpg2013-06-24 932A1 CIVI trailer hitch 007.jpg2013-06-24 932A1 CIVI trailer hitch 002.jpg2013-06-24 932A1 CIVI trailer hitch 003.jpg2013-06-24 932A1 CIVI trailer hitch 004.jpg2013-06-24 932A1 CIVI trailer hitch 005.jpg

Finisher the receiver hitch today, still need some paint and relocation of tail lights and a air line. I did flip them before the upload!

Warren, Nice work, are you going to leave leave the tail lights in the original position? That thing looks like it could pull a house off the foundation.

Scar59, The tail lights were swaped and lowered due to pintel hitch brackets for hitch, I used rod couplings to lower the lights so I did not have to cut the reflectors off not that it would be problem just more work. I really like the lights due to them being further from the center. I was going to mount them on the outside of the hitch but got to thinking if I had a blow out they would be torn off. I think I will work on painting the rest of the bed and mud flabs next, cutting the sides will follow. Thanks for the good comments.
