I had the pleasure over the weekend of doing two events in two days with the V.
Pawnshop, Reloader64, my girlfriend and I took four vehicles to a local car show Sunday morning.
The V was popular, but I had one visitor who stood out.
Pawnshop watched two gentlemen approaching, and saw the point at which one of them spotted the V. He said the man's face lit up and he made a beeline over.
When he approached me, he said "Hah! M706! Haven't seen one of these in a long time!". He is the first person to call it that to me.
He went on to tell me about being an Army convoy commander in Vietnam, and how the MP's escorted his convoys with V's, which he also referred to as a Duck. He mentioned that this was in the Long Binh area in 1969.
I asked him if his escorts were the 720th MP, he said "Yes!".
I told him that my V served with the 720th in 1968/69.
He stopped, then turned and put his hand on the V and said quietly "So this old girl probably protected me..."
He inspected it quietly for a few minutes, came back and chatted some more, then thanked me for preserving it and went on.
Such moments seem so short.
Cheers
