RE: 331

I thought they were lighter than that. Heck, the multifuel is only 1800#. I had no problem extracting one with my red neck engine picker upper but then again, it was attached to 2 trees. not one.

If anybody needs a complete engine rebuild gasket kit or any gaskets for that matter, get on Ebay and search under REO. There is a guy in Chicago that is selling them. I asked if he knew what they fit and he didn't so I took a chance for 30 bucks and I when I got them all the gaskets were just like the ones on the engine I am working on now. He has another set up for sale right now.

sorry to respond here some 8 years after this thread was started, but i just found it in my search for the answer to an un answered question:- how much does this OA 331 engine really weigh??

i pulled mine from a REO M-35 a few days ago and it was H E A V Y.
my guess was about 800 kg = 1760lb.

can anyone give good and documented answer to this question??

thanks

yes i did.

one reply said 872 lb which is obiously wrong and the other said arround 1600 as an evaluation.

i wondered if someone actually knows the answer.

i know that the LD 465 weight is apprx. 1800 lb but it is 478 cid and the 331 is only 331 cid, so there may be a difference there although the 331 is older.

You clearly haven't a clue. You were given the answer straight from TM9-1819A.

it's one thing to quote from a manual and another to actually pull one out.

the engine i pulled out was no way near 400 kg. more like twice that weight.

are you sure it was 872 and not 1872???

I have pulled several OA331 and several multi. In fact, I pulled an OA331 using a cheap parts store engine crane. Not going to do that with a multi. I stand by my prior comment.

The literature I found on the oa331 said fully dressed the engine weighs 872 pounds and with transmission it weighs just shy of 1200 pounds.

A fully dressed multifuel is about 1700 pounds without a transmission.
