Yesterday was running to Monoe, La to pick up this:

Because I ordered some a few weeks ago and they still hadn't arrived and the tracking only said "moving through network (the parts were supposed to arrive on the 4th), so because I need the truck today and this weekend, I panicked and started calling everyone in my network.

A buddy of mine had one, so I hopped in the truck and drove 100 miles to get it. While I was there, he asked if there was anything else I needed and I mentioned I would eventually be looking for a cargo cover.

He said "I have 3".

So... I had some extra deuce stakes and 5 ton bows laying around and so this happened:

I'll be trimming them to fit today.

And the irony is, this email showed up last night... 🀦

He also had some OG non-detergent 10-30 oil in CANS for $1.50 each, so I got some of those too...

I like the cargo cover! When I finish my diesel 715, it will have bows, troop seats, and tarp. I have a complete set I will be using, so if you need measurements of any of it, holler. (I don't have a tarp yet).

It's been a long time since I've seen oil in cans! I remember display racks of cans next to the pumps at gas stations.
I still have one of those stab spouts in one of my tool boxes. I've been saving it to put on a BII display in front of a truck at a show. It would be fun to show it to younger folks and see if they had any clue what it was. :p

Cheers

In 1969 and 1970 I worked in a gas station, for $1.10 an hour. Good money for a kid. Full service. I stabbed about a billion cans of oil. Yeah, been a long time since I saw a spout. We did not even have them in the Army units I was in. Pocket knife was good enough. You will have to ask 1000 people before you find one who knows what its for.

I would have thought when you were a kid oil just bubbled up out of the ground and no one knew what it was !

A few of the times we played:

Of course, cleaning up...

And the new paint job...

By no means was this a solo effort... from Dennis being patient and explaining things to me, the Mike's with their enthusiasm and encouragement, Jason hating on house paint, Warren coming through in the clutch with parts, several long phone calls to various people and just the sheer amount of support from the SS family online and IRL... if I haven't mentioned you by name, it's because the sheer amount of people who have helped me.

This truck is a reflection of all of you.

Thank you.
