I paid $122.70 for 6 inner hub seals, 4 outer hub seals, 2 front axle shaft oil seals, and 6 axle flange gaskets. That was the best price I could find. I'm bout to do my front end and install the silicone boots when I get the time.

I got everything from Erik's Military Surplus. I bought everything that I posted in my last post plus yellow silicone boots, everything shipped was $208. I shopped around before buying all that, I think that was a good price.

What's the scoop with the rear seals up front? Which one is it and why is it better? Thanks Jim
Although I haven't installed it yet it's been recommended to install the outer seal used on the rear spindle on the front to help seal the front bearings from dirt / water contamination. The logic would make sense because you end up sealing the bearing cavity on both sides just like the rear axles.

Per the above diagram would gear oil have access to the ends of the axle tubes between the hub and axle or is that sealed at the differential?

mike929,

The answer is, it depends!

The front axles have a seal from the axle housing to the axle shaft, behind the knuckle. This keeps gear oil out out of the knuckle, king pins, boots, etc.

The rear axles do not have a seal from the axle housing to the axle shaft because there are no knuckles or king pins or boots, etc....

DieselBob has posted pictures of the rear axle configuration. So, yes, his picture shows gear oil access to the axle flange.

Make sense?

Yes. I could see where a solid axle attached to the hub of the stearing axle may cause some push in the corners. :)

Lime Green for me too...

They were the only ones the supplier had in stock, and my truck isn't quite show quality!

Call the seller, they may be willing take the lime green ones back and drop ship you some pretty red ones!
