Bummer... I guess mine are the old style too.

I also notice that the old can says Net Weight of 11 ounces on the old and 12 ounces on the new.
Wonder why the one ounce difference? Don't quite imagine it would be more paint in the new can.

I have saved all those extra nozzles and it is interesting that I noticed some were different.
I guess glcaines comment explains that!
the old style had 5.7 oz of propellent and solvent, the new cans have 6.8 oz. Same amount of paint, but commiefornia compliant other stuff.

I got one of those given to me and thought it was a waste of time. Figured I should at least try it though... Turns out you do have a little better control with the handle on the can - like a real paint gun. Mine didn't have a special nozzle though. Just a can holder. You supply the can and nozzle.

I recently painted a 3ft x 2ft box with it on the back right of my wrecker. It looks incredibly smooth and even and I used the can gripper.

That information and a nickel won't but you a cup of coffee though :-(
The biggest benefit for me, when I used it, was that it eased trigger finger fatigue when painting a lot at one time.

The extra nozzles are the old version. The new cans don't have enough space under the cap to fit a second nozzle according to Mark.
If you need new spray nozzles: here's a link to the nozzles that Duracoat uses for their Aerosol Cans. Wonderful nozzles - fan type spray with super fine mist. I bought 200 of them so I never have to worry about nozzles again. .45 cents each

Has anyone tried the replacement nozzles in the previous two posts? Feedback?

I bought an assorted pack of the Montana nozzles on Amazon. They definitely work better. But they need to be viewed as single use. I found once the paint dried in them from a prior application they did not work as well
Single use wouldn’t bother me. But do they spit paint as bad as the included nozzles?

No they are much better than the standard nozzle. These Montana caps are the choice of graffiti artists everywhere. (Not kidding about that, I saw them featured in a film about train taggers)

I just got a call from Mark at Rapco.
So here is what's going on.

The supplier of the rattle cans that he was using is unable to supply him anymore. So he is now using a different spray can supplier.
The manufacturer for the valve at the top of the can went under, so it's now a different valve/spray mechanism as well.
The contents are basically the same.
Due to california laws, the propellent and thinner mix had to be adjusted a little as well.

The process is something like this.
RAPCO buys the empty cans.
RAPCO buys paint from Gillespie.
Rapco uses the paint from Gillespie to load the spray cans. All the paint is the same paint, whether it be in the gallon can or the spray can. The only difference is the spray can paint is thinned out a little with acetone in order to properly spray out the nozzle. This means it might look just a little different than the gallon spray, depending if you thinned out the gallon with one or another type of thinner. This is why Xylene is the recommended thinner, as it helps keep the paint as flat as possible looking.
Thanks for sharing that they batch with acetone. I'm in Calif. and I have a gallon of alkyd enamel that I would like to spray, but you can't get xylene anywhere around here. It looks like acetone will work. The can clearly states not to use turpentine, Naptha or mineral sprits.

I'm actually pretty happy with the RAPCO and how it turned out. It isn't quite as dead flat as the CARC is I will admit, but it's still very flat looking to me, and as I'm not planning on getting looked at under NVG conditions, it's close enough and easy enough to change whenever I want to look different
We use alot of the paint from Mark and have no issues with it. Touch up or complete repaint. works well and holds up. (only project we didn't use it on due to the fact they don't make it was restoration of a 113 year old Japanese field gun thats displayed in Port Clinton, Ohio. It was captured Aug 1945 on Bataan. Its Imperial Army Field Green. (YUCK) and to help it hold up, its in IMRON custom made) We just finished two Schneider 155's and a 75 pack howitzer in Gillespie, they look great according to the organizations we restored them for, though they're all old enough none used CARC.
