M109s can be a lot of work but I have enjoyed mine and think you will like it as a base for a camper too. They have a tendency to get rust on the roof and develop water leaks, so check for that and correct as necessary before spending much effort on it. If water does get in, there is a steel floor pan under the oak flooring that rusts out, so be prepared to replace it too. Good luck! I have a build thread on here that shows what I did, and feel free to PM me if you have something specific you need help with.
Great, thanks so much. My son and I are planning on going out soon and taking a closer look at it. Is $2500 a fair price for a non titled, don't know if it runs, drives and stops M109?

I've seen trucks in worse condition advertised much higher up here. If you've researched the title process down there and know it's possible (it's not easy here from what I understand) and it's not a rust bucket, I think it's good. The engines and brakes are easy enough to work on. I hate to see a good truck get parted out, but if you look at the value of the axles, a hard top, and a bunch of scrap metal, you should be able to break even either way.

I would first approach the state of Texas with the vin and a bill of sale to see if you get a title and at that point you know your safe to spend some money on her and these guys know the truck to help you it seems like a ( WHY HELL YEA) !!!

Yes, I think Texas is not as particular as other states. I met a police officer in Colorado on our trip and he said Colorado will not register retired MV. Sad!!

I agree with cbrTodd .

At that price, you can have a nice truck that might run - or parted out you can definitely break even. Spend a little time with some sand paper and paint on just the hard top and easily get a thousand out of that part alone...

Hopefully though, you can get her to cough and sputter to life and just hearing it run will make it worth more than $2500.

Dropped in a new dizzy and fired right up. Will do a little investigating on why the one quit. Good day today. All the run flats out and wheels painted. Will try to get them mounted tomorrow. Started on the 60 today. Pretty nasty from hub to hub but I think everything will cleanup nicely.

That looks great with new shoes all the way around ! Did you keep the beed locks in the tire or was that part of the run flats?
I still have the front to do. I have to rebuild the 60 and do some fab work to get the spring hangar in passenger side to fit right. Those are 2 piece 12 bolt HMMWV wheels not bead locks. The run flat is just an insert you have to pull out. Just like pulling a calf.

I thought when you pull the run flat the black rubber ones that the part that nearest the wheel was what you were tightining against to keep the sidewall from being pushed off the bead . Ive never had apart the hummer wheels .

that was my understanding too. either large inner ring. or run flat.... has to have one of those in there for the 2 piece rim to work.

I looked on Google and found as many saying you have to as you don't with the don't crowd saying you can't air down. I'm not going to be in any places I need to air down and running them in the back until I get the front done and going to test the no insert crowd out. Been a few hundred miles and no issues running about 50psi on a 8k#+ truck. I understand the bead Is a different angle but if the tire seats, to me it is not going to unseat unless air pressure is too low and tire is deflected enough to unseat it. Maybe they will make a Mythbusters show with me:unsure:

Yea that makes since as long as you have air pressure it stays on the bead plus i bet it will be easyier to balance

Did those wheels have an O ring i assume its like bigger 2 piece wheels . I used that tire bead goop you use to to get rims in and out of the tire on my O rings as well as the wheel bead hoping it would keep the o ring from getting pinched .

I cant find where I got them from but i bought "rebuild kits for the wheels and some extra studs. came with new wheel o rings, new nuts, brass schrader valves and o rings for the metal valve stem. I just stretched the o ring out for a bit then put it on and when it shrunk down to fit in the groove, bolted the outer piece down real quick. Everything seems to be holding air. I had to take to the tire shop for them to put the balance beads in and seat the bead. I don't have a cheta yet.

Got the boys this weekend and went campground camping at a close by state park. Had to go to the head and is a 1 holer and a kid beat me in. Waited and waited, looked for an inconspicuous tree no such luck. About to pee myself after I swear 20 min he was out. Quickly went in and did my business all the while looking for the hole in the wall to the ladies next door. Never found it. All this being said, the M109 with my on personal head and shower is very convincing.

Front axle cleaned up and first coat of primer on today also busted out the front spring bushings. I will press them in at work . Went shopping again for another net to put across the back doors when the boys are in playing.
I get nervous when they are at the back door and it open.. long way down for a 2 year old. Got a couple of shelter legs to try and modify to put my FJ40 under. I looked around at all the deuces with boxes and they are requiring more work than I am wanting to do. I know of another without a bed but motor is bad and possiblyhas title20220129_181712.jpg20220129_181659.jpg20220129_154500.jpg. Wonder if engines are easy to come by or the possibility of swapping in a 12 valve auto tyranny and case?
