Sound deadening, sound proofing - which have you done and what are your results?

I wanted to add some input after I finished doing my sound deadening and interior install this summer. I used these products everywhere there was metal inside the cabin as well as the top.

1st layer I used sound resonix butyl sheets after throughly cleaning.
2nd layer I used a siless foam
3rd layer I used a foil line sheet of plywood for the hatch and tunnel cover and for the floor was a horse stall mat
4th layer for the horse mat and plywood was an all weather boat carpet

Some other things I did to sound deaden was seam seal every crack, weld every hole, rhino line the outside wheel wells and floor boards as well as added sound mat under the hood.

the results were astounding with idles as low as 60db and highways in the 70-75db

I added a sound system and it sounds pretty much like a normal diesel truck from the inside.

I spent overall around $1000 for this result and it was well well worth it!

That’s a shocking result. Really hard to believe actually. I did something similar but I used mlv instead of plywood. I’m still at 72 db idle and 87 db on the highway.

To be honest I wasn’t expecting it to be that quiet either but the resonix is by far the best material I have ever used and that’s after dynamating the whole inside of my ls3 swapped rx7. The proof is in the pudding and like I said I am very very pleased with the results. Now there are factors that maybe you may not have or consider like the extra rhino lining underneath, full interior with leather seats including suede headliner and console, hood insulation, fan clutch and probably the most was the tires and wheels being changed.

Here are the test results for product being used as well as the decibel meter during idle which is kinda high as I see it in the low 60s

Well it’s too late for me to use resonix brand, unfortunately. but I wish I had known the cost difference, while significant, seems worth it. The Siless branded buttl liner I put down didn’t really seem to do much.

my noise comes almost 100% from the engine. What did you do around the doghouse?

What console did you do and headliner?

I also like your trans and t case shifter cover thing. Where did you get that?

I built my own console using some scrap wood and just need to leather wrap it now

You really went all out. You must have sound proofed inside that console? What did you use?

Did you put anything on the engine side of your tunnel or doghouse?

I am still in aw (and really jealous) of your decibel readings. I suspect that simple shifter boot made a big difference, I think a lot of noise sneaks in at that

I don’t see why that wouldn’t work assuming the sticky is up to the challenge. Just clean really good and if it doesn’t end up sticking spray it with some 3m 90

With my Sound deadening in, my results are: 71 db idle. 80 "Country roads" (35-45 mph) and 86 highway. These are ranges for the most part, but thats about average. Originally I was 76 idle. 85 country roads. 90 highway.

at idle and on country roads the noise is almost all engine noise. On the highway though, the wind and tire noise drowns out the engine. if I let off the throttle and "coast" down hill, it may drop only to 85 decibels.

I did 120mil Siless butyl sheets, I did not do full coverage. then I used siless 1/4" foam and then 1lb MLV. On the tunnel I put some strech carpet over the mlv. I also built a center console which I lined with mlv and filled with some foam from seat cushions. The center console didnt really make any difference.
