I was having trouble adjusting to the loss of the old front page, which I found was one of the really compelling features that made me hang out at Steel Soldiers. So, I found myself ignoring the forum for a few weeks while other stuff grabbed my attention. Well, I popped back in today to ask about something that came up over the weekend while playing with my wrecker, and then I stumbled on the "Today's posts" button that appeared while I was away. I think that's just what the doctor ordered, and it's my new bookmark for visiting the site. Thanks!

Just an update...

Hyperlinks should be a little more visible in posts now. Sidebar functionality is increased (chat status, who's online). Corrected an issue with the CUCV hot rodding/modding forum. As well as a few back end things.

Is there a way to show more than 25 threads on your page. Now with the increased length of the left side information, there is a long blank area on the right side.

Somewhere I thought I selected 40 posts/page, but I only see 25 threads per page.

Sorry I misunderstood. That's a global setting on the server side. I went ahead and doubled it to 50.

How about changing http://www.steelsoldiers.com to redirect to http://www.steelsoldiers.com/search.php?do=getdaily&contenttype=vBForum_Post

This would put today's threads back as the landing page when users go to http://www.steelsoldiers.com

I can easily tell the boards CMS to display whatever page I wish. However, we're going to move more towards the standard of forums where the domain resolves to the root forum. Today's posts is only a click away.

If you would like to always go to the "Today's Posts" page first, then just save a link to it in your favorites/bookmarks and then use that to visit the site:

I think that will only give you the Today's Posts at the time you save the bookmark. The address actually changes every time you refresh the page to pull in new posts...

Ah...I saved the bookmark after it rendered and put it back to the number. I went back and updated the bookmark and it works now...

Yeah, I already learned the hard way that clicking "Today's posts" and then saving the URL in the title bar would give me a link that expires. You need to save the URL from the button before clicking it, like the one I posted above.

Anyway, I'm liking the "Today's Posts" page, especially with 50 posts per page. Just like old times! I thought that having classifieds included in the list might be annoying, but it's not bothering me after all.
