What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I thought it was weird as well. I thought someone painted it that way. But once I saw it in person, I realized that it was CARC paint with all of the markings still on the truck. I bought it in April 2024....but I believe I am the second civilian owner.

Strangely enough after I bought it, I found a video on YouTube when it when was auctioned off by Government Liquidations at Nellis AFB, Nevada. The date on the video says it was uploaded 10 years ago. It had 54k on the odometer then....it has 58k now.

Here's the video....it's definitely my girl...I can tell by certain markings and such. For example, when they pan around the engine bay, you can see someone wrote "GOOD" on the GEN2 alternator...you can see the same from my belt pics in my prior post above. The video says it's M1010, but they went off the door data plate. At some point, someone swapped out the door with one from an ambulance. It's definitley an M1028.

Me neither....I like them either green or camo. Mine's a bit of an odd-ball. It got the 3-tone treatment. Guess some fellas were bored at JBLM one day...I dunno.

I like your 1028, first saw it when you posted in January.

What does the bottom line of your painted-on license plate say? I had a similar style of marking on one of my M1009s, but rather than paint it was done with vinyl letters on a rectangle of reflective tape. It was a range truck on Fort Riley prior to auction.

Here in the states we just replace entire units. We have a culture of replacing instead of repairing.

The 'art of repair' is something that's lost on the vast majority of this and the previous (my) generation. Even mechanics these days will just throw parts at the problem instead of actually diagnosing a problem.

You look at a manual for a car in the 50s and it tells you how to change your spark plugs, replace your distributor, how to plug a tire, how to adjust your timing, etc. You look at a manual today and it says 'call roadside assistance' or 'bring it to a dealer'.

It says "OFFICIAL USE ONLY" on the bottom.

Well, good old repair manuals are very detailed and helpful. As long time Cadillac cars owner i have Cadillac FSM-s from ´56 to ´98. Thousands of pages, all procedures, part, repair instructions etc etc. After that all probably went online or computers (damn canbus etc).

And yes, please! I have a file of unusual markings and such, as they are seldom well documented.
This includes pictures of misspelled stencils, like the one on my M109 that says "Drain air tanks dayly"

M813c....here you go. I held up a tape measure to give it some scale. They placed this in the front bumper license plate spot, and again on the upper-left corner of the tailgate. I wondered if I should cover them up, but so far I haven't had any issues from the local or state PD.
