What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Just picked up my new license plates and got them installed on the rig I got last week! The weather here in Montana is getting nicer, so it's time to crawl underneath to make sure things are tight before taking some drives around town.

Haven't updated in here for a while. Probably the biggest of a LONG list of updates has been the turret and GPK that now live on top of the Battlewagon 3.

And I checked the spindle nuts...

and trying another type of Trucklite headlights

And added some foam to the tunnel and footwells to see if it helps with noise or heat.

Put out a fire today!!

Started the HMMVW. Smelled magic smoke escaping. Popped the hood and found the Time Delay Module for the Cadillac valve ablaze. Glad I was still at home. Now I just need to figure out what caused it. Ideas anyone?
Before one goes changing stuff...check that nasty solenoid for proper resistance of 58 to 78 Ohms and shorts to ground both leads. Don't want to blow another TDM.

Not the first time a solenoid takes out a TDM, CAMO

Smart idea with the foam. Beats sewing new insulation panels bit by bit like I did. I got halfway and lost interest, it was so tedious. Please let us know how the foam works out. Esp. noise (in my case).

I've got 5 or 6 types of stick-on noise and heat foam to try in different places as well. But I'll need to strip the interior and clean it thoroughly before that project. :)

Good call. Solenoid tested at 1.2 Ohms, basically a dead short. Project HMMVW (as opposed to the "Working" HMMWV") solenoid is 68 Ohms. I guess the project HMMVW is going to be two more parts further from being finished now.

68 Ohms in in the middle range and GOOD. Nice to see use of an Ohm meter, rather than poking around and guessing. Good thing the market is flooded with NOS valves.

Finished installing LT inside cowl insulation. It’s a bear of a job unless the tub is off the frame but it can be done. TM is a good reference and fairly complete.
Note insulation piece must be cut in two along parting line per TM for retrofit or replacement on vehicle.

Switched over to hardtop style windshield brackets. I prefer the better angle for the Xdoors. Moved the Plan B top forward a tad to accommodate the change in fitment.

I think I would have filed the corners down a bit though, I may be a little more sensitive than most, I have damaged skin from decades of being scooter trash, I get bruses and tears in my arms, some I have no idea where they came from, "Moral USE SUN SCREEN!!" going to use these on my Dmax build!

I put on a new top, as the old one’s threading and Velcro was starting to come loose. Finally installed the bed aluminum piece to keep water from coming into the truck. I had a cargo cover on there to keep things dry. But, removed the top and put the truck flap back in time for Colorado to get whacked with 12+ inches of snow, and more coming...

Finished reverse light installation.
Tractor switch in 3 speed shifter reverse location. Clearance is tight inserting shifter in body with oversize switch. It may take some finesse. Took the opportunity to aluminum nutsert the gearshift bolt holes.
Prestolite wiring and packard connectors. Teed into shifter light circuit.
Lights mounted into A2 bumper bracket using 2” and 3” washers to locate into bracket hole.

Not sure why guy's keep taping into the transmission selector lamp circuit for the back-up lights. There is a dimmer circuit in the switch (resistor Hi-LO-OFF) and it's value and wattage is based on old school incandescent dash lamps loads (couple of bulbs) Now not a big deal that HMMWV tossed in an LED's for the shiftier, but IMO I don't think additional loads on this circuit is a good idea. (unless one can stay below ratings... and then ??)

I would like to ask of those that have change their dash lamps to LED ??? Do they dim when selecting between HI and LO ? I don't have LED's in the dash so a little help here to straighten me out.

I check with Mr, Ohms Law and looking over the prints....it has me scratching my head, CAMO :rolleyes:

I mounted mine off the bumper like in the picture. After thought moved them , as I seem to hang up my bumper, coming out of awkward locations. Something about low hanging fruit. LOL
