CONTEST! CLOSED

I still have the Drivers side to design but this is a working drawing for
hangers for 5TON Chain Lockers (Boxes) the rearmost box on the PS
of a 5 ton.

The 2nd from the left goes OVER the far left and they get welded together
leaving pockets in the rear for hex-head bolts to be tack welded in.

The 2nd from the right goes OVER the far right and they get welded together
leaving pockets in the rear for hex-head bolts to be tack welded in.

Each completed welded unit gets welded to the lowest part of the spare tire carrier
that saddles the frame.

The vertical slots you see are reveals for the gussets on the spare tire support.

The rear-most gusset will get about 1.25" cut away from its bottom.

5Ton boxes fit right in there w/ about 2" to spare.

The spare tire carrier only bolts to the winch mount, is that what you mean here?

Matt,

yes, I relooked, the brackets I designed to hold a 5TON box
will weld to the winch mount, right below where the spare
tire mount mounts to the winch mount...

...that is a mouth full!

Okay, got it.

Will there be enough room for the spare tire to lower correctly if you mount a box there? There is barely enough room as it is now...

Matt,

YOU are brilliant...having said that I looked at it in the past and decided the need for space
outweighs the difficulties I will have w/ the spare. No doubt I will need to invent
something to deal w/ that issue for sure. A electric winch might be the awnser so
I have one hand to maneuver the spare up and down. Indeed that issue is on my
radar. Case and point, I believe I have left enough room for a 1600 tire too.

I'll geter done...it will be user friendly...

THANX MATT! I appreciate your thoughts, few think ahead like you do.

83,000 Towbar M916

I am getting closer to having a proper sized towbar onboard.
I'm toying w/ the idea of simply collapsing this 83,000 Lb
towbar and making a latch so as to stow it in a vertical* position and carry it in place.
I would rather have all this weight over the rear axles but....
nothing like a towbar READY to go!

83000-M916.jpg

*Vertical as maybe in 45degrees and up...It might look sweet at a 45
if I can make some bracketry that looks store-bought...and, it is really
heavy extended as it is. I will collapse it and see how hard it is to
deploy and stow, maybe a little winch is it order to raise and lower it.
I don't want it to be corny, I want it functional, tough as Madonna's (V)
and much easier that her (V) to operate. (Well so I hear anywho LOL)

HA! Well...you and me BOTH know there are those who will do that
and call it A-OK all day long! Ha! I will have no less than 2 bits of security
on this when I am done... One thing at a time...

5 Ton box mounts for an M916

I have been hard at work designing bracketry for any stock M916
so a guy can hang 5 Ton Boxes on it using 5 Ton hangers / saddles.

The rules were;

1-NO WELDING TO FRAME
2-NO DRILLING FRAME
3-MUST LOOK STORE BOUGHT

Well, after many mistakes and redesign and back to the water jet cutter
several times I came up w/ a design I am happy with and we welded it
up permanent to the lower bracket that holds the winch to the frame.

This was a LOT of work. The driver side will now be easy and should
anyone buy a set or two (Four parts for just one side ) they will have the job
done, well a professional fabricator and a Los Angeles city approved
certifified welder will have things buttoned up fairly quickly. Each
truck will be a little bit different, weld thickness etc but they all
should have the same base materials to affix to.

I am pleased w/ the outcome, I achieved adhrearing to all my rules,
of course rule #3 is subjective but I am happy...

Weld the bolts to the back of each rear bracket first;

Reveal where necessary;

Fit right side rear, remove paint for welds;

Someone had raised alarms about getting the spare tire on
and off. Well, I have not tired to get it down but I did get it
up, just one man and the stock spare tire winch. Alls you
need to do to get it up is lay something like a moving blanket
on top of the 5 ton box. I am sure going down a similar use
of anything similar will work or just scratch the pizz out of
things...Whatever way, it is a non issue.

Look at all that storage room, HA!

It looks exactly like this machine in another facility.

Capable of 90,000 PSI, the water is a medium that contains GARNET.
The water and the Garnet can slice thru 6" steel like butter.

The 4 parts you see took 32 minutes of cutting if I remember right.

That's an impressive piece of machinery:

- And clearly not the kind if thing any TD&H picks up at Lowes or HomeDepot.

Just out of curiosity what does one of these cost (+/-). $150K? $250K?
