24 bolt wheels with BFG Bajas - Runflat or No Runflat

Ok, well. At our yearly rally, someone showed up, random civilian, and took off pretty quick under suspicious terms (ie. not acknowledging any of us waving at them, etc.) The only vehicle I had to chase (there were others that went after,) was my wife's M1123. We were trailing them, doing over...

24 bolt wheels with BFG Bajas - Runflat or No Runflat

For those looking for tire shops to balance, etc. these tires, look into commercial truck tire shops. They have equipment to spin up the large/heavy tires. The light duty stuff in small shops really are not made to handle the heavier combos like we have. I almost went with Balancemasters, but I...

CSM Army Tires vs Waiting for Aftermarket Wheels & Tires

Feltz tires are good people to do business with. I got mine through them.

24 bolt wheels with BFG Bajas - Runflat or No Runflat

I have E rated Bajas on 24 bolts with runflats. 2019 date code, new tires. I have the centramatics installed, and I can easily cruise at 70+ without issue (been over 80 mph and still felt fine.)

    Humvee lug nuts

Well, I see a lot are listed as locking. And I have to really wonder if this is just a carry over from the rim studs/nuts for putting the rim sections together. Besides, the military uses the ultimate thread locker, PAINT. Lots and lots, layers and layers, of paint. And yeah, my threads/nuts...

    Humvee lug nuts

I get why the military would want locking nuts. But, for someone that checks these things, why should I really do it? And don't give me this 'they are safer this way', or the 'they will fall off if you don't' talk. There is nothing special about these rims, studs, nuts that needs the locking...

    Humvee lug nuts

Man, BOTH of my M1123s had bad studs/nuts. I needs to replace pretty much ALL of them. A lot of the threads are pretty much trashed. I didn't see this until after I got the nuts off and the paint over all the threads that made everything look ok. Not sure I will replace with locking nuts though.

    Battery Disconnect Quick Question

Camo, Yeah, a remote dual solenoid setup would probably be the best. Just not the cheapest. Easy enough to use a key for both at the same time, remotely. My concern is with security and battery draw. I don't want someone randomly turning my power on and killing the batteries, trying to start it...

    Pintle hitch bolts- What grade?

Yup, there are more times than you think that Grade 5 is the safer choice. Grade 5 will stretch/deform, where grade 8 will crack/snap. Depends on the usage.

    Battery Disconnect Quick Question

It works for a few things, but littlerally will let you kill the first battery that is running 12v loads. It won't let any 24v loads happen, as that battery will have no ground. So it is safe in the sense of not killing electronics, but doesn't disconnect the 12v battery.

    Battery Disconnect Quick Question

This concerns me directly, as I have the dual voltage setup, and WILL be running 12v loads, and have the TCM to consider as well. Disconnecting both the main positive and main negative would seem to be the only safe method.

    Battery Disconnect Quick Question

Coug, Here is the 'potential' issue. Only when you have something hooked up via the positive off the first battery for a 12v load. You disconnect the main negative lead. It could create a positive ground scenario where the 12v lead pulls from the second battery if you try and run a 12v load...

Question on Gov planet process - What's a realistic timeframe for first time EUC's right now?, etc.

Yes, $50 is for SF-97 and the extra $100 is for title. You only get the Montana title. I won't my M1123's on 10/7/2020. I received my Montana titles 9/9/2021. Got my registration 9/10/2021 ;) WATCH your govplanet login for the SF97/title section. They will update as they change things. BUT, if...

OUT AND ABOUT WITH MY HMMWV

This is one of the few left in the US. Not many were made to compete for the contract, and most of those were shipped to central america, or destroyed. Almost all the parts are M151A2 surplus parts. This was what the contract was all about, utilizing the massive surplus of mutt parts. Alas, they...

OUT AND ABOUT WITH MY HMMWV

Funny, Long before we ever had a HMMWV, I bought two of these at auction (don't ask...) My wife thought she could build her HMMWV one part at a time. She wasn't doing too bad of a job either. We had all kinds of parts. But we traded most of them to get her prototype Mutt (M161). That was about 7...

    Sheared generator bracket bolts.

Yeah, not that anything really stays 'stock', even in the military. But after a rebuild, all bets are off. Oh yeah, been collecting MVs for enough years, and was prior Army. Well aware how things get swapped out, fixed, etc.

    Sheared generator bracket bolts.

No wonder this gets confusing! And mine that has the longer bar to the block has the remote power steering reservoir, etc. Both were 1998 trucks. Rebuild dates are the only thing that separate them really.

    Sheared generator bracket bolts.

I have 200 amp alts in both mine. One has the older serp belt setup, and it bolts to the exhaust. Other one has the overrun on the alt, and the heavier bracket that goes further down to the block.
