Average cost seems to be about 25-35k for a basic M998 with no frills and a soft top. There are a few other variations than the M998 around as well but the M998 is the most common military surplus HMMWV.

Well big thanks to 2002ford for suggesting a way to test the transmission on the M1008. I dont have a transmission issue. Id say Im about 75% ready. Im going to start on the king pins in a bit and that should put me at 95% ready.
Well I did the manual test 2002ford suggested, it works, its just a really soft transition from 2nd-3rd gear. I've also noticed since the new CDR valve has been installed the oil leaks have diminished greatly so far.
New CDR valve is installed. A couple old nasty sceptre mfc cans are finally completely clean and fuel worthy (never trusted a military fuel guage. Cut the old USGI lock off the chain, locked a spare tire to the cargo tiedown in the bed. Getting a road kit assembled (4way, jack, some fluids...

Did a test drive since replacing the vacuum lines, still wont shift into 3rd.
Gen 2 light some how started working propperly, but noiw Gen 1 light comes on after start up for a few seconds then shut off, neither one lit up on restart, but that could be because the engine was still warm and wait...
Take a moment to look around the steering components and the axle components for loose parts, cracks around the steering box, and anything thats amiss. My M1008 drove great for two months until I hit a pot hole and felt like the truck was going to tear itself apart with that death wobble. Dont...
