Use automotive seam sealer. It stays somewhat flexible after it dries and can be painted. New car bodies have all their seams filled with it before they get painted and body shops use it when replacing panels.

They are there for security reasons as stated. You don't want to chain the wheel when towing. You will find the chains bolted on, welded on, and even clamped on the steering column with the clamp bolts tacked.
At 2k rpms my 818 moves at 52 mph. Last road trip hauling a loaded M146 trailer was 5.4 mpg. Bobtailing or towing, seems to make no difference to the fuel usage .
Nice install! If you install an MX-7777 in a convenient location you can control the power on/off to the vic-1 with it.

Bought my first M1008 in '92 from the drmo at McGuire AFB. It was a return from the 1st Gulf war. Paid less than $400 for it with 19k miles on the clock. And even back then they came with fork damage to the driveshaft and door. :roll:
