I'm in this same boat.
I have a VIC1 and the Racal headsets, hooked up via the newer split bailout cables. The headsets work except for the PTT. I've hooked up an audio source to the AM-1780 and can hear the audio clearly. The headsets I have have a two-way PTT/tone switch. If you push the...
In my search for a lock to complete the RT-524 install in my humvee, I came across a report (http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/782109.pdf) about locking devices that were tested in the 70's. The lock replaces one of the clamps on the MT1029 radio mount.
I don't live in a high-crime area...
The torsion diff isn't a true locker. So as Action mentioned, if one wheel is slipping, more power goes to that (faster turning) wheel.
I was taught BTM when I went through the driver course in the Army. I've used it occasionally to get unstuck. My (very limited) understanding is that when you...
I've been thinking along these lines myself, but haven't come up with a perfect solution yet.
One option I'm looking into is to buy a real military tarp (OD cotton) and cut it to the right size. It's not difficult to fold the edge and sew it, and a set of 3/4" brass grommets and the tools is...
I'd definitely check both batteries first. Always start with the easiest/cheapest thing  If you only have a 12v charger, you can unhook them from the truck and charge each individually. I had a similar problem and the rear battery was dead--it wouldn't take a charge.
The Rustoleum "camouflage" paint (black) is a good matte black. It was a pretty close match on my truck, though it's hard to tell how much of the visible "paint" was actually done by the military. Also, the green isn't wildly off for items you need to paint OD, though I wouldn't try to blend it...
Yeah, sorry about that. Here's the image from the TM
On my truck, the rear seat cushions (which are taller than the originals, and IMO better) cover the inner pin hole.
You definitely don't have to have the partition. I don't recall any of the trucks (mostly soft-top four passenger ones) that I drove in the army having it.
I agree, pictures would be good. A few from all the sides and a couple interior ones would be nice.
Also, to reiterate: what matters is if YOU are happy with the truck. If you think you made the right choice for you, you can tell everyone else to pound sand.
Yeah, only one pin when it's a seat. The seats actually overhang the rear fender on the inside, so there's no place for a pin to mount there, as you noticed.
On a side note, if you have rattling from the seat backs once they're installed, you can insert a piece of neoprene in the bottom of the...
Are you talking about the seat backs that double as floor panels, or something else...
The rear seat panels just sit upright in a well behind the seat base and are attached with pins, not bolts. There should be a steel cable that has a pair of pins that go through the seat panels and into the...
I'm not sure there's a "better"... it entirely depends on why you want the truck and what your budget is.
I bought my M998 because it's the same truck as I drove around Europe and the sandbox when I was in the Army, it was set up like the trucks I drove (as a four passenger), it was already...
The military doesn't care about milage, so if the gauge needs replaced they just throw a new one in. The odometer reading is meaningless. So's the tag: there's no way to tell what work was done in 2015... it could have been a whole new drive train, or not.
Do you know someone who is a "car guy"...
I've known guys like this. He'll also sell you a pack of grid squares for your maps, as well as brand new chemlight batteries, and then send you off to Co. HQ to look for a PRC-E8
