Mine are safety wired together (though I live in a small, relatively crime-free town). If you wrap the wire tight and don't leave a long tail, you'd need pliers to get the whips off the bases.
I also agree that HMMWV owners are likely veterans and/or gun owners and unlikely to take crap off...
If you're talking about water running down the channels to the doghouse when a four man truck is parked with the nose downhill, I don't think drain holes alone would do it. I don't think there's any downside to drilling (small) holes in each of the channels, but to really stop it you need to dam...
Definitely good advice. I don't recall ever parking one unchocked while I was in the service and I continue the practice now that I have one of my own. Since there's no "park" on the transmission (and thus no parking pawl to hold the truck) it's really not a good idea to park on even the...
Like the old joke:
I am a fully automated car. I will not crash, I will not get lost.
Nothing possibly can go wrong... can go wrong... can go wrong... can go wrong...
Got the tire carrier installed...
The good:
- Looks (mostly) like an airlift bumper
- Tire sits low enough not to block view out back window
- Cheap ($150)--back when I bought
this airlift bumpers were regularly selling for $500
The bad:
- Not actually an airlift bumper :D
-...
Yep. In fact, if you look closely there are two packard connectors that aren't hooked up to anything. I'm not sure what the deal is (I don't know the history of the truck other than that it was most recently a NG vehicle). But it turned out that one was the backup light wire.
I wish everything...
Here are some pics. Not too helpful, I'm afraid.
The reverse light is the one with the new packard connector attached to it (center left) in the above picture.
Right after the zip tie, it heads into the loom (center right). That packard connector is barely visible on the left above.
Due...
I'll try to get a pic this afternoon. It was in the bundle of tail light wires on the passenger side--a packard connector that wasn't attached to anything.
Of course we're all free to do whatever we want with our personal property. My intention is to get my HMMWV to a state similar to those I drove in Europe and the sandbox, but my memory isn't great (who knew I'd care about details--I was more worried about not hitting a bump and making the XO...
Something good happened :-D
When I got my truck I was in a hurry to get it registered, so I wired up the tag light and reverse light to a switch in the dash. But I wasn't happy with the non-military wiring (I used 20 gauge wire I had on hand, two conductor black and red) and the fact that the...
It was practically the dark ages (30 or so years ago) when I drove one of these things for Uncle Sugar, so my memory is hazy. But last week when I came out of a night class (advanced engine rebuilding--we're working on a 62 Austin Sprite 1100 cc motor) I realized that I couldn't see what gear...
That looks like it has a pretty big crack in it. Unless you're set up to weld aluminum, I'd replace the panel. They're not that expensive, and riveting a new one on seems more straightforward than trying to fix that mess.
Just my opinion, but I took sheet metal restoration (a class in the...
Missing...and it would have taken me hours to figure it out from the TM.
See, that's why I love you guys. Now to root around and see if I can find where to buy a set.
So, since I've had the truck there's been annoying, really loud rattle that occurs going over rough roads (one of the two kinds we have here in Kansas: rough and dirt). Didn't bother looking for the source until I had other stuff done, but it turns out it's the brake pedal. If I put my foot on...
The wait light is not affected by the neutral switch. Whether the switch is bad or not, the wait light should still come on. And obviously your other problems (no other lights working) aren't related to the neutral switch.
Sounds like you already have a grounding harness, so check that the...
