Curious, is the vin # located anywhere else on the M1008/1028's? I know the placard in the door, but does it have the usual strip in the dash? Looking at this 1028 about 1200 miles away and the dude sent pictures but one has me puzzled...
Note the rivets look removed.
Just making sure I'm...
My fricking phone has been ringing off the hook and my email box exploded!! Lol Just bustin your balls man. It really has been entertaining just how many times shipping companies attempted to contact me today. Is there anyone out there who migh have a recommendation? Even some of the better...

DC Memphis to No. VA. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?99083-Memphis-Tenn-to-Northern-VA&p=1266863#post1266863
I'm trying hard to become an MV owner. My prize (not paid for yet) is an M1008 in running condition and is sitting about 40 min north of Memphis Tenn. I'm in Northern VA. Can I get a quote? I'll be up front, just trying to weight all options. Another option is a plane flight to and driving it...
Well, I'm split. Southdave, ironically I was actually thinking about posting something in the Transpo Needs thread to get a quote. I'm not so much worried about the travel time as much as getting stranded. In my driveway, I could probably figure an issue out. At 2 in the morning on the side I40...
Getting ready to buy a 1008. Other plans to trailer it home have fallen through. Turns out, at 850 miles away, it would be FAR cheaper for me to fly to it and drive it home. Advertised as being maintained engine. Current owner suggests changing the belts first. But he says he would not drive 850...
Well, thanks guys. Points taken and my confidence is restored. I'm not looking to set any records; just some work around the house and an occasional trip to work in foul weather. Down the road, it will be the primary travel/work vehicle for a remote cabin in the mountains-why I need a reliable...
So guys and gals, I have a bit of a noob question here. I've been lurking for a while, reading the threads and reference information. I absolutely love this site and all the material available, so I commend the SS site admin and contributors. But I need some insight on the 6.2L diesel in the...
Thank you sir. That's good insight. Practical experience always better than numbers on a plate. When you pulled you're heavier loads, did you get the sense they were trying to push your back end around? I'm used to my old F250 crew cab diesel. That thing was great to pull with. I'll have to...
Thanks for all the replies. I did ask for pictures of the nomenclature plates and it does say 1008. It was my misunderstanding from the internet research. Is the difference in the weight rating only a matter of different spring packs in the rear? And in regards to towing capacity, what is the...
Maybe I'm mistaken. The reading that I've done led me to believe that only the 28 and 1010 had the rear locker and front lsd. And that, along with heavier rear springs and bed tie downs, those were the only differences. I thought all 1008's were open front and rear. Am I wrong?
Looking at a CUCV that's about 10 hours away. Initiatially advertised as an M1008 with lockers front and rear. Guy swears it has them. Is there anyway to tell on the outside of the diff whether or not this is true? Thinking maybe it's possible the axles were swapped in the motor pool or...
Hello everyone. Name is Scott. I've been lurking for a while and using this site as a resource for research into a CUCV purchase. I'm finally going to pull the trigger and pick up one, so I'm sure you'll be seeing a little bit more of me. Look forward to the conversations and picking your brains.
