What would it take to fix this M813?

I do find it worthwhile to resurrect these scrap trucks. I think Crash_AF's M926 will be more work than this M813, but that truck will be bad a$$ when it is done! I am still undecided on the M813, I get the feeling the bid will go beyond a reasonable amount. Auction prices out at Ft Carson...

    Thinking about buying a CUCV

there are some clean running m1009s at ft carson,CO and some at ft riley, KS. I did see a nice m1028 at ft riley. Plan on spending $2000+ for that one.

    Gazing into a crystal ball.........

I tend to agree with the idea of keeping some of these trucks original, but I believe in utility before beauty (see my m1009). I have a neighbor that has taken this idea to the next level. He has a 160 acre yard full of old cars/trucks/and some MVs. He buys them and lets them sit for 20 or...

    Vehicle Scrappage Program

Nancy Pelosi and her left-wing cronies are screwing things up for everyone. Next thing you know, they will just hand over the US government to the UN so the whole world can sit around the campfire and sing cum-by-ya. I for one, don't like most of the new cars/trucks on the market. They are...

What would it take to fix this M813?

Thanks again for the radiator info. I guess that is less painful than the other quotes. I will try to go out to Ft Carson this week and take a good look at the truck, maybe even try to turn the crank with a prybar.

What would it take to fix this M813?

That would be great! Does he have cab tops? If so could you see what those go for?

Intro and a couple of questions guys.

I bought my m1009 a few months back and put 8 lug axles on it before I even had plates for it. The 6.2 is no hotrod, but mine can do 65mph with 3.73 gears & 33" tires. The 3 speed T400 leaves me wanting a 4th gear. I have had bad luck with 700r4s so I will not be swapping one of those in. If...

What would it take to fix this M813?

Well I just got a quote from Memphis Equipment for a new m813 radiator... $1100 + tax/shipping. Lets say I am a little less excited about the truck now... Still interested but my bid tolerance is much less...

    M1031 Contact Truck Wanted

Check out gsaauctions.gov, in GA there is a contact truck. Somewhat beat up, but it looks complete.

What would it take to fix this M813?

Thanks Chris for fixing the link/thumbnails. I have resurrected some pretty beat up junk from Ft Carson, but this would be the biggest. The bed of the truck looks like it has recent paint on it. All the tires are still on, it has a winch, (no hardtop though ) so it looks like it (was) a...

What would it take to fix this M813?

Ft carson does weird things like cannibalize very serviceable trucks to fix old beat up trucks. Just look at the m35s out there. The ones that have newer super single setup with new tires & paint are cannibalized but the old school dual trucks with bald NDTs are sold as "driven in". I would...

What would it take to fix this M813?

I am considering going after this m813 but I don't know much about 5 tons. It looks like just the radiator+ fan are missing in the engine compartment and the cab only looks to be missing a light switch. What do you 5 ton guys think? Is this an easy fixer-upper?

    Jimmy/K5/CUCV family

The 3/4 ton axle swap does still leave you with the original 10 bolt front axle and hot rodding a 35 inch tire may eat a u-joint. However, I have found that most of the weakness is in the rear 10 bolt since it is on duty 100% of the time. Just look up "snapped axle" on youtube and you will see...

    Jimmy/K5/CUCV family

Upgrading the axles is fairly cheap. Put a 14 bolt from a 3/4 ton (not a 1-ton) in the rear as the spring pads will line up correctly. You will need a different rear driveshaft U-joint, these hybrid u-joints can be found on ebay for around $40. Swap out the front hubs/rotors/backing plates...

Anyone win a deuce at Ft Carson?

The final sale price would be useful in case you headed out to Lamar to buy the same truck. You could possibly negotiate since you know what he paid for it. I have always wanted to write a program that "web-scrapes" the GL site just seconds before the auction closes. This lack of final...

Anyone win a deuce at Ft Carson?

I would bet it was Rancher Supply or Boyce Equipment. I don't know of anyone else near Carson. I guess I will have to wait for the next go around... It would be nice to know the GL bidder ID of these guys so I can correlate the results.

Anyone win a deuce at Ft Carson?

One thing I have noticed is that some of the max bids were the same amount which makes me think it was a company bidding on several lots. The winch truck price got out of hand in a hurry! Even the M1009 prices were off the charts. Unless it is a deal I don't even bother on these auctions. I...

    New Deuce

Did you win one from the NM ARNG up in Santa Fe? Let me know how the loadout goes. I have been eyeballing some of those trucks from that unit.

Anyone win a deuce at Ft Carson?

There were some nice m35a2 and m109a3 trucks at the latest GL auction -Ft Carson. Did anyone win one? Anyone see the high bid amounts?

    New guy in Colorado

welcome to the site! I have been buying stuff from Ft Carson since 1997. I am on 5 acres east of town so I have plenty of room for all the trucks I drag home. I have some cucv parts laying around as well.
