    Air in fuel AGAIN

My M1009 HAD been on a good run lately, starting every morning just fine, running well, all that good stuff. One day a few weeks ago, I went out to start it and out of the blue, no start. Wore the battery dead cranking, and not even a hint of wanting to start. Since then I've only gotten it to...

    Stuck in the mud...

Never admit to getting stuck in the mud. If pressed on the issue, simply explain that you were performing a tactical assessment of the soil firmness that became more thorough than originally planned.

    CUCV vs TREE

I know new glass isn't terribly expensive, but I've spent enough on this truck recently without Mother Nature's help! I'll have to see what area junkyards want for a used one, it doesn't sound too hard to pull though. The area was hit surprisingly hard by the 5 minutes of real storming we...

    CUCV vs TREE

It is, most of the neighborhood is more curious about it than anything else. Everyone always wants to know whether it's "really an army truck", where I got it from, etc. I've had one guy complain about me parking it in front of his house, but he was unable to prove that his property extended out...

    CUCV vs TREE

Truck is mostly OK, a shallow dent in the hood, a dent in the fender, and some cracking in the windshield where the tree bumped it. Anyone have any tips for easy junkyard windshield removal?

    Morning engine surge?

This has been happening for a while now, but the curiosity has finally gotten the better of me. Every morning, I start up my 1009 and let it warm up for a few minutes. I take it around the block (one way street), and when I get to the first real straightaway and step on the pedal to accelerate...

    tops off

That soft top looks great! If only I hadn't had to shell out for a transmission rebuild and an injection pump, I could put one on mine. :|

    tops off

New England weather means that I don't often get the opportunity, but when I get a solid dry week on the weather forecast I like to take advantage of it.

    straight exhaust

Just ordered a couple of the Glass Packs for my 1009, I guess I'll find out tomorrow if you guys are right about them!

    gas milage of a cucv

I bet it wouldn't even go a mile on a full tank of gasoline.

    Taking the top off

Taking it off can be a one man operation if you're very careful. I've done it a few times, no problem. Putting it back on will a two man operation, because as others have pointed out it is more awkward than heavy.

    Besides the glow plug controller....

I guess what I meant by "electronic" is little green circuit boards.

    Besides the glow plug controller....

Are there any electronics to speak of on our trucks?

    TH400 help?

I'd change it for sure. When you drop the pan, be sure to look for any little metal flakes in the fluid. If you see that, start saving for a rebuild.

    TH400 help?

What does it smell like? If it smells burnt you might have trouble on your hands. The filter is easy to replace once you've got the pan off.

M1009 is a BEAST off road!

Yeah, they can be a lot of fun off road. First time I brought mine out, though, I bent the tie rod and steering stabilizer when I overestimated my clearance and tried to plow over a fallen tree. Don't do that. rofl

Just putting out feelers.... Boston to Houston?

The lady of the house and I are considering moving out to Houston sometime in the not too distant future. We have two vehicles that would need moving, my M1009 CUCV and a '00 Pontiac Grand Am. Just wondering if this is a route that would be traveled enough to be a convenient haul without...

    Need an injector line

I'm probably just jaded from having my IP replacement go wrong in every way possible (dropping a screw was the icing on the cake), but I dread the idea of taking the manifold off again. :???:

    Need an injector line

I think I can manage replacing this single line with a good crow's foot wrench and no manifold removal. It's towards the top of the pump, so I'm feeling hopeful. Sending PM now. :)

    Need an injector line

I've been fighting with a leak from one of the lines connecting the injector pump to the injectors for months, and I've finally given up on trying to "plug" the leak in favor of just replacing the **** thing altogether. Hopefully I can manage to jimmy it in there without taking off the intake...
